With Etihad running daily services from Gatwick from 12 Oct at less than GBP 350 incl tax (at the moment they are 3 x weekly), I can't see any reason to even consider Phuket Airlines except for the nostalgia factor of flying on ancient aircraft.

I live and work in Abu Dhabi (although I'm Scottish)

Last month I decided to try Etihad as they have 3 flights a week from Abu Dhabi to Bangkok I usually fly Thai or Emirates from Dubai

I was very dissappointed

They advertise as a the new National carrier of the U.A.E and set new standards of air travel

Bullshit ;)

Very drab uniforms Black and dark grey

Surly hostesses (mainly Australians )

Had video screens in seat backs but system not switched on

Coming back here from Bangkok flight left Bangkok at about 09.30

Came round with breakfast about an hour after takeoff

The Aussie hostess asked me what I wanted to drink I replied could I have a beer please

She replied very curtly " We do not serve alcohol with breakfast "

2 hours later finally got a drink although the menu card advertised a full bar service with apperatifes, cocktails, premium scots whisky etc etc

In no way do they come anyway near Thai or Emirates

Having lived in the Middle East for many years I rate Emirates as easily No 1

Thai are not bad but even my Thai wife who is new to international travel rates Emirates as No 1

Cheers

Tilacno,

She was obviously unaware of quaint Scottish customs!

The thing that does Emirates for me is the charter seat-fit on their 777s from Manchester. I don't know of any other scheduled airline that fits 10 across on a 777. :crying It might be OK if you have a fetish for stewardesses sticking their arse in your face (or if the stewardesses were of Singapore standards) but it becomes a bit of a pain after about half-an-hour.

I flew with Qatar for the first time in March/April and found that they were by far the best of the Gulf airlines that I have used.

Regards,

Tom
