  1. Throw the fucker away and buy an iphone........ :D

Seriously though , have a look on You Tube , i am sure some nerd on there will show you how...!

Jeez, that is an expensive option.

As said, basic phones can normally be unlocked by the supplier, you request an unlock code.

Removing all the damned branding and options they install is more of a problem, I managed it with a Sony phone but it was a bit of a routine.

They get smarter, I guess it gets harder.

  2. One time when I flew Thai Air from LAX, the plane stopped in Japan to be re-fueled and cleaned for the final leg to Bangkok. They made everyone leave the plane, but they said it would be OK to leave your carry-on bags on the plane, so I did. I was a little nervous about that, though, as I had some valuable things in the bag. More recently, it seems as though I've had to change planes if there's a stop.

Well I wouldn't expect to be getting off a Thai Airways aircraft Bangkok bound to change planes, nor would I be leaving my carry on baggage behind. Generally I have put my passport back up there, along with cash. It is substantially less than 40lbs though.

  3. Stayed here last 10 visits, I always book a double so no joiner fee. If the receptionist or security are new the girls leave id card at reception and when they leave I get a call to make sure everything ok.

Most of the receptionists and security guys know me so just say goodnight.

I was last there in Dec 2012 and they had just flattened field behind hotel so dont know if they are staring to build something. There was some work going on behind the Pattay Bay Resort but there was little noise and didnt bother me at all.

I always have a room at the rear and a high floor so overlooking the pool

There is quite a bit of building going on behind the Mercure, but they are past the pile driving stage which is the worst. You will still get traffic hassle with the trucks trying to get there down Soi Buakhao. I go to this hotel most Sundays for the Expats Club meeting and have stayed there too.....I am concerned it is deteriorating service wise, slow clean-up in the coffee shop, lack of replenishment at the buffet etc. Staff seem friendly but there seems to be a shift away from the French base to more Eastern Guests.

  4. Could this have been enough for me to become persona non grata in Spanky's?

    I really don't think so.

(Unless there is more to the tale than you are telling us)

I might have been remembered more-so, as I have been known to send a LD back if the lady moves off immediately it arrives and doesn't return leaving it untouched.

Asking for a refund, and her getting the commission tab cancelled.... well that can get you 'remembered'........

I am a little worried that Spankys is going through a 'tail wagging the dog' spell!

  5. I liked the fact that they distinguish between crab and prawn from the sea and freshwater stuff.

Seem to get the more bland freshwater stuff in many places.

And grouper is a reasonable priced, surprisingly less than white snapper, I have found it to have got more expensive over the last year or so in my regular places.

Did you try the Tom Yam Kung/Talay? I have always felt a place that gets the mix of sweet/sour/spicy just right to be a great indicator.

As of yesterday Spankys now has a VIP card for x pats.. Anyone who lives in Pattaya who has some way to show us an ID anything gets this card ....."

Wow sorry to hear about all that......

I simply talked to a very pleasant Thai lady who spoke good English and showed my Pattaya Expats Club Card.

    Discount card ala pronto!

Sounds like having some ability in Thai isn't such a good thing!

Or this Thai manager is a bit thick......

Or wires got crossed........that so easily happens.

  7. Anyone have recent experience with Carhay Pacific regarding carryon limits?

I am planning to go business class and their website shows 15 pounds for carryon limit. I don't know if they are strict about it or not,

I flew Cathay Biz from BKK to Hiong Kong and was not subjected to any checks on my hand baggage,

For Biz Class their site says 22lbs total carry on.

  8. See they are going to alter their timetable, really good timings for myself.

Haven't flown BA long haul in Y for many a year because their legroom and service on their 747's was abysmal at best. Anybody got any recent experience flying long haul on their 777-200, seat-guru is still showing legroom of only 31 inches. Might be tempted if it's not just too bad.

    Regards

Well good news in a way, but the timing ex Bangkok not great when I want to get up to Manchester. An easy transfer at T5 though is great news.

  9. And you, Jacko, are a pathetic person that everyone steps on in real life. Which is why you hide behind the anonymity of these boards to be rude and disgusting to polite and considerate people.

Learn to carry on a real discussion or piss off and crawl back into whichever hole you live in. No one needs your useless comments.

What I carry is my business, not yours.

Then stop whining about carry on restrictions like some child!

Polite and considerate haha! I have flown extensively in the USA and polite and considerate was not something I saw much of!

  10. Overstuffing of the overheads has to do with volume, not weight.

I am allowed a certain size carry on, and whether I put 15 pounds in it, or 40, it will take up the same space. I thought that was obvious.

As to why people need to carry stuff - I think most people want to pare down weight. The problem is security, and essentials.

Security is a major problem at some airports. Heathrow and Kennedy are famous for pilfering, and I have friends who have had their bags broken into. Mine has been too. I wouldn't want to place a camera or other valuable in checked baggage.

Airlines themselves warn against placing valuables in checked baggage. So once you have placed a couple of cameras, chargers, shaver, electric toothbrush, a change of clothing, essential toiletries, documents, maybe some meds, condoms, a magazine or two, some computer accessories, and maybe the laptop itself, you are way over the 15 pound limit if your bag itself weighs 8 or 9 pounds.

Electric toothbrush, electric razor.... are you disabled?

I have normally my laptop, travel documents, change of shirt/socks/undies/pants and travel documents, telephone, small camera.

Pretty sure I am well under 15lbs.

Chargers, in the suitcase, got a drawer full of the damned things.

    Essential toiletries......do you menstruate?

    Meds....a few aspirin and ant-acids.

Condoms....who the hell you having sex with on the aircraft or transit point?

    I wouldn't buy a bag that weighs 8lbs empty!

  11. I have been flicking through some of the hotel sites and seems to me that there are some real bargains out there. Are there any recommendations from BM,s for June -July specials that there may have found?

I made a walk-in recently and it was still 1600 baht......I didn't see it as a bargain as the room was old, things didn't work properly and no in-room safe. I did see quite a few 'deals' being offered nearby though (Soi 7 and 8 area). The hotel was pretty quiet.

  12. I wonder why they have these rules in the first place? It's OK to put weight in the checked bag, but if it's in the carry-on bag, it's somehow a problem? It's all going on the same plane.

I've come to the conclusion that I can travel with almost nothing. I can buy what I need when I get there.

Other than the fact that the take-off weight limit needs to be avoided? :D

I don't understand why people feel a need to carry over 15llbs of weight onto the aircraft. In economy, overstuffing of the overheads is a real problem. I check my suitcase in and am glad to be rid of it....and as most airports involve quite a hike I want my carry on to be as light as possible. (The damned laptop makes that difficult), I also want to simplify security by not being loaded up. Is it just to avoid the wait for the suitcase at the end point?

  13. You could go shopping at scottevest.com and get a tropical jacket and trousers with lots of big pockets, allowing you to temporarily redistribute the weight for check-in, then repack after. Works for me travelling carry-only.

Yeah, security would be a riot.

Or would you do it right there at check-in once you had the boarding card in your pocket.....or one of them.......too many pockets is an issue for me? :D

  14. Last night at 02.35.24 Thailand Time (20.35.24 UK time) I got a strange SMS from a tel number in Ireland (+353864582439)

quote: Hurry Your mobile no has won BP 500,000.00 pounds on the APPLE IPhone PROMO. Send name, mobile, Email to: claims34@hotmail.co.uk

    unquote

Did anyone else on this website get this SMS. I did of course not reply but wonder if I should do anything i.e. inform APPLE or Irish Authorities. Any reply would be appreciated.

Yeah I got one this morning on my True line. Something about my number winning £75.000 (or was it £750,000 ) and asking for email details. To be honest my memory of it is vague as I deleted it pretty quick, like most of the shit that comes in on my True line.

  15. Just get the CTH box then , same set up different provider , and it may be cheaper than True ! .

So there you go Jacko , you might be able to get it for a lot less than 24000 k......... :D

How much is that....I went to the website but it locked up my internet for 60 seconds.

It would be tempting if reasonable and I could tie in internet service too and get rid of TOT!

  16. It was just a thought ! , i suppose 20.000+ a year more in rental is quite a big step up.... :yikes:

Oh I am sure it would appeal to a footie nut, but that isn't me, I would enjoy the odd big game and going into town is a bit too much effort.

I am having one of those expensive months where a few renewals and breakdowns have occurred, so am perhaps a bit money sensitive!

    Cheers.
