  1. Thanks Valentinoxxx, Will go down TIC Travel shortly and check them out. Cheers, Mike.
  2. Have to go back to the UK in July for a couple of weeks. Any recommendations for a reliable agent with good deals locally? Cheers, Mike.
  3. There is a darts team at Raymond’s Bar, the first bar on the right as you walk down Soi Zero from Second Road. Just ask for Raymond, and I’m sure you’ll get a game or two. The team is made up of Thaïs and farang’s, and I think they would welcome a good player. ***Update July 7th '03.*** Raymond sold the bar the bar a month back and no longer a darts team there. Was told the team moved accross the road to Jack's bar.
  4. Does anyone know of an insurance scheme for a couple of very valuable items, one way only in suitcases? (Too big for hand luggage) Our annual cover will not run to this. Travelling next week to Pattaya. Cheers, Mike.
  5. Hi Richard, Originally it was to be the 18th Oct, but got a call today to say there was a hitch with the flight suddenly becoming overbooked, and were re-booked for the 23rd. Oct. A pain because yesterday we set the 17th. for completion on the house sale. Looking forward to being in Pattaya, and meeting up with yourself and Pen again. (and also coming over to HK later in the year) Kes sends her love, Mike.
  6. Thanks for the replies, appreciated. Tom, PM sent. Woody, No never tried Thai Air before. Got a good deal though at £275, one way each. Cheers, Mike.
  7. Will be moving out to Thailand in a couple if months and Thai Air has said we can bring 20 kilos each. Not a lot to start a new life. Enquired into extra baggage freighted over separately, but very expensive plus a lot of hassle from London. Was quoted about £200 for one 20-kilo case. That included 50% discount for travelling with Thai Air and handling charges both ends. On top of this there is the customs hassle and paper work. Wondered if anyone knew what was acceptable in the way of “slightly over weight” at check in, and also the maximum weight you can get away with allowed for hand
  8. I was married to a Thai girl in March and it is legal in England as long as the wedding is a legal Thai one and not just a Buddha wedding. Nothing has to be done in England such as registering because it is optional for a small charge, but if he wants to bring his wife to England she will have to apply for a spouse settlement visa from the UK embassy in BKK. In my case the wait for an interview was 2 months and I had to prove that I could support her, had savings, and had somewhere acceptable for her to live with me. There is a lot of form filling and translations to be sorted out. I used
  9. TURBO & Stevoh, Thanks for your replies, appreciated. I'll post my views when i get back. Getting quite excited about my 3 weeks in LOS. First time by myself, this time, so expecting the traveling to be pretty boring, especialy the Colombo wait and transfer. Only two more days to go. ;D Cheers, Mike.
  10. Thanks for the info Erikaya. Sounds pretty good.
  11. I've just taken out an annual worldwide multi trip 31 day max, for £51.39 with First Stop Travel. http://www.1stoptravelinsurance.co.uk/ Mike.
  12. Excellent and informative post Stevoh. Have you tried Air Lanka yet? Using them on Sunday and not sure what to expect apart from a stop off at Colombo. Chok dee, Mike.
  13. Druid, Thanks for the contact link and number, I’ll keep it for future use. Unfortunately, after hours and hours of trying for any fight to BKK, and using quite a few agents, the answer seemed to be the same. No flights available for within about 8 days of when I needed to go apart from first or business class. Was quoted over 2 grand from the Flight Center for a BA/Quantas direct flight. They advertise from £359 to BBK, but said nothing available for weeks. Almost about to give up when one of the agents phoned back with the Air Lanka for £520 on 18th. (Today) Told her to book it, but 5
  14. The withdrawal symptoms are too strong and after a month away I’m coming back to Pattaya on the 24th. March, and had one hell of a job getting a flight from the UK. In the end I managed to get Sri Lanka, via Colombo for a few hours, and at an extortionate price. Over £600. Is it very busy in Pattaya? Normally I find a hotel when I get here, but this hard to find flight business has got me worried. Hate pre-booking, and normally like to stay at a few. Any advice lads? Of course, as always I will be down at the FLB as soon as I get settled. Mike
  15. Cheers Andy. No, really it wasn't a wind up. I've got my other pussy waiting in Nong Ki for me but hopefully I will be able to spend a little time in Pattaya before we meet up again. Bit worried because she's a chef and says she loves cats. ;D Mike.
  16. Steve, Thanks for your reply and the link, appreciated. Have been trying to find a good home for my cat in the UK, but there are just too many unwanted pets here. Good to know I am able to bring him with me. Mike.
  17. Call me a softy, but I am intending to move to Pattaya within the next year or sooner and wondered if anyone could help with any info about me bringing my cat. i.e. Quarantine laws, companies arranging transport and cost etc. Thanks, Mike.
  18. I have just returned from Pattaya and can also recommend the Sabai Lodge on Soi 2, which was excellent, and the Cabin opposite Big C. Had a bad experience in the Cholchan Pattaya Resort, and this lady was my fiancée, see hotel reviews. Mike.
  19. Just back from Pattaya and suprised and pleased to see the new board. Was also a member of the old private board and hope I'm going to get the upgade too. :) Great site Pete. Mike.
