I live on Soi Country Club, off soi 13, about 4K lower than you towards town. Use TT&T Maxnet 1 meg connection and an lucky to get between 36 kbps to zero connection on a bad day to 200kbps on a very good one, normally in the early hours. My last 12 years of working was at a UK advertising agency as TV Editor. After being bought out by a US company things gradually changed from 35 hours a week until work until you drop, or die, which a couple of workers complied. A year later I decided that I did not want the alternative, and started working to rule. Within a couple of weeks they offered me a small redundancy package and after accepting it have spent the last 5 years or so in Los. No regrets, and glad I gave them the finger. Mike.

Have used a 3 stage filter system for the last 5 years here in Patts with no ill effects. Filters changed once a year, or so by the supplying company at about 800 bah. Probably cheaper to buy large water bottles weekly, but happy with the way it is. mike.

Just got my bill in (Direct from Electric company) and it seems about the same as the period last year after checking an old bill from 11 months ago. With standing charge, units used and tax, it works out this month at 3.44 baht per unit. (Or 2.48 per unit excluding standing charge and tax.) I live about 4K outside Pattaya, so maybe it’s a bit cheaper the other side of Sukhumvit. Also the unit rate goes up slightly depending on how many units consumed a month. The more units used, the higher the cost. Mike.

Hi Steve, Yes gross. I put most of my savings with an Egg Internet Acc. Told them a couple of months before I left the country that I was going, and didn't want to pay tax on my interest anymore. Was told I couldn't retain an account without a valid UK address, so re-phrased saying that I was extensively traveling the world, gave them my parents address, and would only be staying in the UK about two weeks a year. No, I normally bring about £10K at a time for living expenses, mainly because I get approx 4.75% tax free interest in the UK, where I keep my savings. My Thai Acc. only pays a little less than 1%, but have to xfer to meet the requirements for my retirement visa every yrar. Mike.

Mr T is another company and Pattaya based on Soi Diana. Off topic, but I have used Mr T four times without problems, and on the last pick up from BKK the driver even picked my wife up from our place nr Pattaya to meet me with no extra charge. Thanks for the replies Guys, but I am trying to do it the other way round, from BKK to LHR for an enforced break to sort out some family problems. After nil response with getting Eva prices with a provisional booked flight from my agent or their website, I tried Thai Air which was over the top at 45,000 baht, (approx £642) for March. Wonder now if it possible to book Eva with a UK website starting from BKK using a UK credit card with an internet printed ticket to get the normal low season prices. Cheers, Mike.

Normally use Eva for BKK-LHR return once a year, but can’t find a way of getting a price for checked available flights on their site. Tried a local agent today and provisionally booked a flight in 5 weeks time and was also told they could not give me a price until a couple of weeks before departure. This worries me slightly as if it proves to be overpriced it won’t give me much time to reorganize. Want to use this airline for my air miles and maybe an upgrade on the return flight, but find this a slightly unusual practice. Anyone else had a similar problem with Eva? Cheers,

I got a tax rebate of around £650 for part income tax paid, prior to moving here. Also got a rebate on my small private pension after months of my daughter hassling them from the UK, and then the pension was paid tax free to my UK bank account. I informed them of my intended move a few months before I relocated and filled out the necessary form they sent me. The whole process took about 8 months, but was sorted out eventually. The same for the interest on my Building society account, but this took one year without any rebates on the tax paid during that time, way over £1,000. O

Kept out of this discussion until now. I sold my house in the UK over three years ago for £210 grand, with £37 grand left on the mortgage, but an endowment payback (cashed in early) of £25 grand. The interest payments at 4.5 % (tax free) banked with an Egg B/S has so far kept me living happily here ever since without having to touch my capital, apart from a couple of reasonable property purchases in Los. I’m probably not a good example either. Lived here for over three years, have a Thai wife, own our own house and we both have transport just outside Pattaya. In the early days expenditure it was about 35,000 baht a month, and now it is around 45,000, including BUPA medical insurance and a trip back to the UK once a year. Also drink and out most nights. For those that know me here would agree that for me, life is good. One thing I can ensure here, is that I have a much better life style in Thailand than I had before in the UK when working my balls off. Mike.

Yes Alan, the wife is the youngest of five sisters, unfortunately they are all married, live up country, ..and speak no English. However, she does have a cousin who is 32, available, no babies, but again, little English and has never been out of Buriram. BTW, great news about the sale of your flat at last. Mike.
