Yes I saw this being mocked on TNT yesterday..... apparently I have to put my incense stick out when done with it.

As the Chinese New year Fireworks go off all around my house.

Do they burn fake plastic money as they do in Cambodia?

After the rain yesterday afternoon, I did expect better and clearer visibility this morning.  That does not appear to be the case.  I am still of opinion that visibility is dependant on both air quality and how humid the air is.

I'm on my hotel balcony,Klang soi 12.Early most morning's I can smell burning.looking north east I've been able to see some hills in the distance maybe 3 times in 24 morning's,I first thought it was mist from humidity, now I believe it's only from burning, agricultural, industrial and traffic.

    And for this one!

I recently have returned to the UK after five and a half weeks in Patts. For the majority of that time, I was unwell to some extent or another with respiratory issues. Those caused lack of sleep, and that made me, to use your words, "feel like hell".

I have another trip planned for 4 weeks in March. I'm seriously wondering if I should cancel it.

The problem is going to deteriorat in the short to medium term.I noticed the big buses have returned in numbers this morning while I was on the beach.Soi Buakhao is a no go zone for me,on my one visit to metro delivery trucks and bikes were belching out toxic fumes.Soi six had cars crawling down. Its 04:37 Monday morning I am in my hotel room coughing away,it's not good.

  4. I am really struggling with the pollution.I made the mistake of walking second road, from Klang to south Pattaya rd.Then up beach road to Klang.I paid for it the next day with a serious chesty cough and generally feeling like hell.

It's so bad that this will probably be my last visit to Pattaya.

I am off to Bali in a couple of weeks,it's the rainy season but anything is better than this.

I have no idea about a solution to the problem but the combination of industrial, agricultural and traffic is deadly.

It's a serious problem for this old falang.

  5. I got it working in the end,so it's Bali instead of PP.€338 return from DM airport in Bangkok, plus €428 to extend my return flight to Amsterdam with EVA,double what I paid last year.I saw a video on Sihanokville on YT,I knew it was bad but it looks disastrous.I know some people on Bali,it's the wet season in February but if it's not good I will just fly back to Thailand.Arrive 10 January stay in Pattaya till 3 February then 3 nights in Bangkok all booked and payed for.6 February fly to Bali,24 February back to Bangkok, Depending on how I feel it's back to Pattaya/Hua Hin/Chiang Mai and fly home 5 march.

  6. Anyone else having trouble using the air asia and Bangkok Airways apps and web pages? I am looking into the prices for a round trip bkk-pp next February, if I decide to extend my trip,it's an option, that or spend 4k baht with an agent. The app and web pages just don't work, tablet or phone.possibly there's a three month limit or some such nonsense.

reading the reviews something is not ok.

With the long term threat of being 'illegal businesses' I expect people do not want to invest in the structures...

The authorities have a cunning plan! Wait it out till one part collapse completely or partially, then declare the whole lot unsafe.Swifly followed with a total demolition. In the meantime screw the punters and tourists out of as much money as they can.Another reason to avoid walking street.

I also stayed at Classroom Jan-March.  And the dogs out front of Classroom (like them but dayum shut the fuck up at night) would kill rats and leave them around on the road.

I would hate to work in Penthouse.  Betting there are vagrants sleeping there and wildlife galore.

I think the penthouse is salvageable, lots of work but doable. The rodeo boys is another matter,I wouldn't know where to start apart from a total demolition.

It had a bad reputation for uncontolled wildlife yeats ago. Dread to think what it is like after being vacant for a few years.

I stayed in the classroom early this year, looked out over the rodeo boys next door to the penthouse. They are both going to need some serious work to get them into shape.lots of rats came out to play at night.Of course the locals fed the dogs that attracted the vermin at night and the birds overday.A few homeless slept there as well.

What's this new place about, at the top of soi 15...Buakhao end? Anybody know more......?

I do hope they don't resume the digging up on that corner, or it will be stuffed before it can get going..... some other new places are struggling.....

Is it me or is the baht weakening? The reality is the Thai economy is heading in a positive direction with exports (particularly to China)  on the up, ..and tourism projected to get close to 2019 numbers next year. The gray cloud on the horizon... when will a new majority government be created?

It happens every year,it coincides with the low season for tourists. We all then get exited and book flights for next winter.Come the high season or when I arrive on my annual trip, it does a switcheroo and my Euro turns to dust.Every effing year it's the same.I have just spent €2400 on flights and hotels for january.youll all see.

I have been looking at flights all year for late June. Last year in May I got flights for $1,500 return.

This year I looked and looked and couldn't get it for less than $2,500.

Then I decided to try Booking.com who I use for accommodation.  I got return flights with reasonable  (not good) travel times for $1,900.  So $400 more than last year, but $600 less than travel agents or airlines themselves.

If that's the price for June, what will they be like during the high season?

There were flights with only carry on,no pre check in seat choice. They are not for me.Flights with a stop over and under 18 hour flight time we're all above €900.

  13. I have booked with EVA January 9 to February 6.

Clearly the days of cheap flights are over. Paid €1085,pre COVID it was €600-650 .It's a direct flight, free choice of normal economy seat and 35kg hold luggage.KLM is a few hundred euro more.Flying via the gulf or Turkey was around €900 with the stopover.

Teelack, I'm a former 3 pack a day but not an Evangelist when it comes to smokers next to me. I have to deal with it to catch the bird on the pole and i do. I won't consider spending money in restaurant that allows smoking and wasn't aware they still existed.  America went from smoking in hospitals, grocery stores and restaurants to nowhere, not even on the outside grounds and this happened quickly.  Though i will agree or perhaps disagree, no matter the aircon or separation if you stay for 2 drinks your clothes reek of smoke. Keep letting them know why you leave Teelack. Im an activist against the loud so called music and will not deal with that.  I'm to old for smoking to kill me but i fear being deaf.  Get off my Lawn!

"I have the right to a smoke free workplace".I took some stick over that one.In the UK and many EU countries the unions led the fight to get smoking in public places outlawed. They deserve the credit.

Friend moving to Pattaya (or vicinity) in 6 months and wants reliable reasonably fast internet on his laptop.

He is on a tight budget and will likely be renting a cheap apartment rather than a condo.

    What are his internet options?

I and others I know or met all have tales of poor and slow wifi internet in their rooms.I didn't try any wired connections or even if they exist.

The systems are at their limits.I hope your friends doesn't rely on the internet for work or business.

  16. I stayed in five different guest houses/hotels from 20 November to 9 January. All of them had flaky wi-fi,my two mates who were in pattaya at the same time had the same experience.Waiting at the check out of the supermarket the guy in front was held up by the dodgy connection while trying to pay with a card,he commented that it was just like the wi-fi in his room.If you need a fast stable connection for work you may struggle,if my experience is anything to go by.

I came over using KLM just recently. It was expensive, the food was utter crap and all the flight attendants bar one was over 45 and some significantly older. Certainly not the best for the money.

KLM and EVA are the only airline's that do direct flights to Bangkok from Schiphol, not exactly spoiled for choice. Both are always fully booked in high season.I usually go for EVA.One option for me is to go via the gulf and then stay for a few nights in Bangkok, then make my way to pattaya.I will then not spend a few nights in Bangkok at the end as I have done for the last 25 years.I like to go shopping in Bangkok but I really don't need any more clothes, certainly no stuff.

Talked to someone recently out from UK via Amsterdam, KLM, his ticket quite expensive and a few terms and conditions came with it.

The flight i would go for allows changes,€50 plus flight costs.Thats a biggie for me because I come for 4 weeks and then get an extension if I want to stay longer.KLM have always had the attitude that we should be grateful they allow us on their planes.

Wow.... looking 40+ weeks in advance? Ten months.

I won't book yet! In the past July is the month to get the best price for a flight in January.I am just curious to see what's going on with flight prices.Same as I check the exchange rate on the TT website.I don't expect €600 flights any more.Things could get strange.
