  1. Air Show Draws Boeing 787, Nearly 200 Orders The 2010 Farnborough Air Show in England got off to a big start as the Boeing(BA) 787 made its international debut landing on Sunday, and the aircraft orders came in faster than expected on Monday. "I can't think of a finer stage on which to present this highly anticipated airplane," said Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the 787 program. Airbus and Boeing announced 189 orders on the first day, more than twice the total orders at last year's show. "I don't think people thought it would be that high, certainly not on day one," said aviation consultant Scott Hamilton, speaking on an Air Insight LLC podcast. "By the end of the week, we could be looking at 400 orders." Airbus announced 122 orders, while Boeing announced 67. Most of the orders were from leasing companies. Air Lease Corporation, the new aircraft financing and leasing company created by Steven Udvar-Hazy, formerly CEO of International Lease Finance Corp., ordered 51 Airbus A320s and A321s. GE Capital Aviation Co. ordered 60 additional A320s and 40 Boeing 737s. So far Bombardier, which is preparing to enter the narrow-body market, has not announced any orders for its planned C-Series planes. "The expectations were that Bombardier was going to announce a C Series order," Hamilton said. "They really needed to announce (something) to bring credibility back to the program." U.S. airlines are not expected to participate in the buying. On its earnings conference call Monday, Delta(DAL) said it will reduce its fleet by 91 aircraft in 2010 and by 20 more in 2011. CEO Richard Anderson made it clear the carrier has no immediate interest in new airplanes. "We are continuing to purchased used MD90s because at today's prices they have a far better return than a 737-800 or an A320," he said. "We will continue to opportunistically look at the used aircraft market." Asked whether Delta plans to ever take delivery of the 787s ordered by Northwest before it merged with Delta, Anderson responded: "We have no further updates on the 787." -- Written by Ted Reed
  2. Obviously, your command/comprehension of the English language is lacking as the posts are dissimilar in nature, one from an Airbust fan and Boeing's rebuttal. indeed. Remember to take your meds EVERY day.
  3. Changed my arrival date and I'm arriving at Narita from DTW instead,so that means a NW 747-400 relic instead of the 777LR. Crap.............
  4. Boeing, Royal Jordanian Sign Order for Three Additional 787 Dreamliners FARNBOROUGH, United Kingdom, July 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Boeing (NYSE:BA - News) and Royal Jordanian, the national carrier of Jordan, today signed an order for three 787-8s at the Farnborough International Airshow. The order is valued at approximately $500 million at list prices. This order previously was attributed to an unidentified customer on Boeing's Orders and Deliveries website. Direct purchases and leases combined, Royal Jordanian has committed to 11 787-8s. The Middle East carrier placed its first orders for four 787s in 2007 and also has arranged to lease two airplanes each from CIT Aerospace and International Lease Finance Co. Royal Jordanian was the first airline in the Middle East to order the 787 Dreamliner. It will place the 787 on North American routes initially, including New York, Chicago, Detroit and Toronto. Royal Jordanian has cited the 787's performance versatility and impressive economics as the main reasons behind its decision to replace its medium- and long-haul twin-aisle fleet solely with the 787. "The superior economics and range capability of the 787 will allow us to competitively serve North America and other destinations in our network from Amman," said Hussein Dabbas, president and CEO of Royal Jordanian. "The unique passenger appeal of the 787 will enable us to provide a competitive advantage in the markets we serve." "This commitment to the 787 by Royal Jordanian will allow for expanded routes and a customer experience second to none," said Jim Albaugh, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "With the 787, Royal Jordanian will operate the world's most advanced and efficient twin-aisle airplane. We will work closely with Royal Jordanian as the airplane prepares to enter service and delight passengers." Based in Amman, Jordan, Royal Jordanian became a member of the Noneworld alliance in 2007.
  5. And,once again, the 2 posts I referenced were not similar at all.In fact, the 1st is from an Airbust fan and the 2nd from Boeing-so nothing in common. So feel free to edit other member's posts as you've done in the past to make yourself appear correct.
  6. LOL-no,they taxied if from Seattle! Here are many links to see it there: http://www.google.com/search?q=787+arrives...ved=0CCUQqwQwAQ
  7. I am trying to figure out your post as it makes NO sense. Post 1926: Boeing 787 Dreamliner delivery could be delayed again Boeing has cautioned that the delivery of its new 787 Dreamliner could slip into next year, rather than the end of this year, as planned. The company told the BBC it still plans to deliver the aircraft this year, but this "could flip into next year". Japan's All Nippon Airways will take the first delivery of a Dreamliner aircraft. The project has already been delayed for more than two years, following a series of hitches. My Post 1941: Slow down,Airbust clowns: AIRSHOW-Boeing reaffirms latest 787 guidance England, July 17 (Reuters) - Boeing (BA.N) said its chief executive had not altered the latest delivery guidance on the 787 Dreamliner after a newspaper said he had expressed confidence in delivering the plane by end-year, as planned. Boeing last week said deliveries could slip into 2011 but that no decision had been taken. [iD:nN15224632] In a summary of an interview given to European Sunday newspapers by Boeing CEO Jim McNerney, released on Saturday, Germany's Welt am Sonntagsaid: "The Boeing chief was also confident that the first Dreamliner 787 can be, as announced, delivered by the end of 2010." A Boeing spokesman clarified that McNerney had stuck to the same script on deliveries as the 787 general manager last week. "Mr Mcnerney made clear that the intention remains to deliver the first 787 before the end of the year, but he said that the flight test programme is tight and that it is possible delivery could slip by a few weeks into January," Boeing spokesman Charlie Miller said on Saturday. "This is exactly what the head of the programme (Scott Fancher) said last Thursday," he added. Exactly what did I repeat?Nothing,of course.Don't skip your meds.
  8. Nice to see somene else is very familiar with my company!
  9. My post is in response to post #1926 on Jul 15 at the TOP OF THIS PAGE! I thought you actually read a thread prior to responding.Guess not. Typing out loud huh? LOL!
  10. Thanks to everyone, even you Google Tom (sort of) who has responded.I'm looking forward to my 21 hrs in the air on Aug 1-2. As an aside,I see Delta is upgrading the equipment between Narita and BKK from an Airbust A330-200 to a A330-300 in the Fall.
  11. I have read the thread I started and still looking forward to your answer to my question. indeed It was a simple question or so I thought.
  12. "I don't like the layout - it's done to squeeze another two seats into the front section of a 777-200LR (26 v 24 in a standard layout). It's the reason that I choose Qatar over Etihad." What is it with you and that head-patting icon? So I'll ask again since you gave a 1 word response without an explanation, what are the reasonS? indeed
  13. CT,sounds like that's the sole reason you chose one over the other,correct,2 fewer seats in the front cabin? On my return segment on Nov 1,I am flying to LAX instead,so I get to fly in one of the NW 747-400s.I flew that acft from Narita to Atlanta last May,before the NW/Delta merger was finished.Hopefully Delta has upgraded/standardized the Business cabin. But I still like the interior spaciousness of the 747.

  18. So USA/UK in 2018 & 2022 in either order.
  19. SAO PAULO -- South Africa successfully hosted the World Cup. Now the focus and pressure is on Brazil. The 2010 World Cup went off without any major problems despite fears that South Africa would not be able to cope. Brazil will also have to prove it can overcome challenges to host soccer's biggest showcase in four years. And it will be a hard task for Latin America's biggest nation. FIFA has already heavily criticized Brazil's preparations for the 2014 tournament, saying the country is behind schedule on several fronts, including stadium renovation and infrastructure. Even Brazilian authorities acknowledge they have to pick up the pace to get the country ready in time. A recent report by a government watchdog has acknowledged "delays" in work to fulfill FIFA's timetable, warning that construction in some key areas, such as airports, may not be completed in time. FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke said a few months ago that Brazil's lack of progress was "amazing," and on Monday reiterated that a lot of work still needs to be done to prepare the country for the World Cup. "There are challenges ahead in Brazil such as building new stadiums, airport, roads and setting up a communication system," Valcke said. "But we are looking forward to the next four years." Brazil's Sports Minister, Orlando Silva, told The Associated Press during the World Cup that the nation was not yet "at full speed" in its preparations, although he was optimistic the country would have everything in place by 2014. Brazilian soccer federation president Ricardo Teixeira also played down "problems" in the nation's preparations, as did President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who urged critics to stop making a big deal of the current delays and said the problems were being blown out of proportion. "The World Cup in Africa is over and now everybody is asking, 'Where are the Brazilian airports? Where are the Brazilian stadiums? Where are the Brazilian trains?'" Silva said Tuesday. "As if we were a bunch of idiots who didn't know how to do things and define priorities." Brazil will also host the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and it will also stage the Confederations Cup in 2013 as a prelude to the World Cup. The challenges faced by Brazil are similar to the ones South Africa had to overcome before this year's World Cup - high crime rates, a huge disparity between rich and poor, long distances between cities, and a need for extensive new infrastructure. FIFA criticized South African organizers for the country's lack of preparation ahead of the 2010 World Cup, but the nation came through and was ready in time. FIFA president Sepp Blatter eventually awarded South Africa a score of nine (out of 10) for its hosting of Africa's first World Cup. Stadium renovation and infrastructure improvements on airports and urban mobility are the main areas Brazil needs to work on, according to authorities. The government's budget watchdog, which is known as the Brazilian Court of Audit, warned in its report that work on the airports needs to start as soon as possible. "The situation in some airports was already critical in 2009," the report said in late June. "There is a risk that ... the planned investments will not be enough and, consequently, construction will not be concluded in time for the event." Air transportation will be key in Brazil as there will be 12 city venues spread across the nation, which is as big as a continent. Brazil's airport authority is reportedly planning to invest about $3.7 billion in 16 airports which will handle World Cup passengers during the monthlong tournament. Brazil will also need 12 virtually new stadiums. It has barely started working on them. Sao Paulo, South America's biggest city, doesn't even have a stadium to offer at present. The Morumbi was dropped from the World Cup project last month because there were not enough financial guarantees, and the city is in danger of not hosting any matches if officials cannot find an alternative soon. There had already been some criticism because of fears the venues would cost too much money and would not be used often enough after the tournament. "There is a risk of having white elephants after the World Cup because not every host city has a football tradition and enough fans to justify the existence of such (stadiums)," the government watchdog said in its report. A recent study by the government said Brazil will invest $18 billion in infrastructure, and more than 700,000 permanent and temporary jobs will be created. More than 600,000 foreigners are expected to visit the country during the competition. Brazil will be hosting the World Cup for the first time since 1950. It was awarded the 2014 hosting rights in October 2007, after FIFA declared the race open only to South American countries. Brazil was the sole candidate, although it already was a strong favorite even before Colombia withdrew several months before the scheduled decision by FIFA.
  20. That "We're Back" screen/screenshot wasn't available when I tried,that's why I tried.So I guess they're ALMOST done.

  22. After seeing nonstop coverage on ESPN today,I didn't know he was a football coach and that football was his first love, even as the owner. Funny story-he was attending the OSU-Mich game and couldn't get a nice room,so be built a hotel and reserved the penthouse so he wouldn't have that problem again.Several anecdotes on TV today-also much charity work in Tampa area w/o folks knowing where it came from.
  23. I've only been using them for 2 years but only once have I had an issue with the website, which was during their gradual site upgrade. Somthing Big-Airbust is giving them an A380 to shuttle Brits back and forth to Patts!
  24. If only he could hit like that when it counts-during the season. On a sad note, the best owner in baseball passed away this morning,George Steinbrenner. Yankees & Dodgers in series.
