  1. MM, The most obvious issue is obviously the language. I know lots of guys in Pattaya, many who have been there several years, and they haven't been inclined to pick up anything more than the absolute basics as far as communicating with anyone in Thai. Whilst I do drop back into Pattaya to see friends there are loads of farangs outside of Pattaya who would have the place bottom of their list of places to visit in LOS. Rereading your post you actually answered your own question ....... I like where I am because its not International ......... no Starbucks, Ronnie Macs, Tesco etc etc (We do have a KFC though even although the same stuff is available outside at around 30% of the price). The pace of life is much slower, the beaches 100% better, no roads permanently clogged up with vehicles belching out crap. I'm not sure about the infrastructure bit in Pattaya .......... They seem to spend a lot of cash but it was only two years ago that the whole City seemed to be without water. As for broadband, ATMs, elevators, cell phone coverage etc ...... yep we have these and even a cable car thing that takes you up to the top of the vantage point at the end of the beach. You don't get that on Buddha Hill ..........
  2. I think that some of the reasons for living in Pattaya wouldn't really apply to the remainder of the country and vice versa.
  3. The Egyptian pyramids pre-date Angkor Wat by around 3,500 years.
  4. I asked the same question today at my surgery. My doc's response was to set me up for an appointment in Oct for regular tests that I have done and give me a script for 4 months supply of Cialis.
  5. waccy, How many times do you need to be told? Scally has told you on several occasions that Boeing delivers its products to spec, on time and if there was a delay they, being an ethical company, wouldn't try to hide that fact from their customers like those guys at Airbus do. Technical glitches have delayed border fence 10:35 AM Mountain Standard Time on Friday, June 22, 2007 By 3TV The virtual border fence at the Arizona-Mexico border may not be working on time. Technical glitches have delayed the fence, which is supposed to secure 28 miles along the border near Nogales. The virtual fence is a network of remote cameras and sensors. The fence was supposed to be working by early July, however, this month's tests have produced unreliable results. Gov. Janet Napolitano says that she was told last week by Boeing, who is making the high-tech fence, that the project was on target.
  6. The Nirvana is great but unfortunately it's next to where the Ocean One Tower is due to be built. I assume the piling work for 91 stories could be a bit of a pain in the ass. The room decor is great as is the service but I found the beds to be quite small. The girls love the bathrooms though. The English owner, Richard Rhodes, is a really interesting guy with a wealth of knowledge of Thailand.
  7. I spoke to my consultant regarding this issue yesterday because I was told last year that this was the new rule ................ which it is .......... sort off. . There are a whole host of excemptions and qualifying statements in the rules. In my particular case, I was covered by two excemptions ..... in receipt of a war pension and a as a former UK resident for 10 consecutive years who has been overseas less than five years. The problem is finding someone in the NHS who knows what the rules are.
  8. Like the A380, both the Dreamlifter and 767 tanker were also on schedule up to roll out. It's then that delays kick in ................ 6 months for the Dreamlifter and 3 years for the 767 tanker. Presumably the engineering and management teams were talking to each other on those projects as well.
  9. I think that Airbus has a fair amount of flexibility in the medium term and has plenty of scope to absorb new orders in the 320/330/380 markets over the next five years, particularly when the Chinese assembly line starts work. Boeing has undoubtedly benefitted from the lack of competition in the 787 market segment but now has very few slots available until the 350 comes on line in 2013. I'm quite sure Boeing will be working very hard with the US legacy carriers to secure orders for its 737 and 777s over the next few years. There's certainly enough business to keep both companies reasonably happy for the next 8-10 years at least.
  10. And if you look at the posts above the same price is available on flights with
  11. All the deals from MAN that have been quoted in this thread are for bog-standard connection times i.e. under 3 hours.
  12. Whilst they have the A380 they'll remain the biggest aircraft producer ........ until such time as Boeing builds something bigger.
  13. Today you posted ...... The plane’s first test flight is expected to take place by the end of September. Does that mean it's not on schedule any more?
  14. You don't have to go any further than Etihad's own site to get flights for 310 quid plus tax in Oct (458 quid all in) so they do have cheap seats well in advance ........ just not on the dates you would prefer.
  15. Bill, Nah, it was on another thread a couple of weeks back. FWIW, I've just booked on Qatar's site for biz class return from BKK to MAN next weekend. The fare is 66,000 Baht inclusive of taxes etc. With the 200% miles in biz class plus 50% bonus for gold card holder it amounts to a good deal ...........
  16. Bill, Wasn't there somebody posting recently that cheap deals with Etihad had gone forever?
  17. Joe, Unfortunately, Thaksin's biggest fault/crime seems to be that given a democratic general election he would get re-elected again. I agree with your assessment though ....... the clock is ticking for the current rulers and they're not about to make things as easy by taking a convenient trip abroad (I noticed on Thursday that even the Post has started referring to them as "the dictatorship").
  18. Joe, Yep, blame Thaksin. Nine months after the coup and they still haven't managed to come up with anything criminal to actually pin on him other than rumour and innuendo.
  19. That used to be the case but hasn't been since 2005 when lastminute.com was bought by Sabre. The flight side of things is now handled within the same group of companies via the likes of travelocity, travel4less and travelselect all of which are owned by the same parent company. I agree though that if a deal is available at one company then it will normally be available elsewhere. The trouble sometimes is prompting some 19 year old travel agent to look in the right place for the deal in the first place.
  20. Scally, Are you daft, or what? You need to read better quality press than the Seattle rubbish that you seem to delight in masturbating over. Leahy said the design was frozen in response to questions about the aircraft's fuselage. From Flight ...... Airbus does not intend to make changes to the fundamental fuselage design of its A350XWB, the company’s chief commercial officer customers John Leahy said today. Discounting a report that Airbus is preparing to shift to an all-composite barrel, Leahy stressed that the fuselage design is frozen. “We have the A350-800, -900 and -1000,” he notes. Slightly different from the crap you are spouting.
  21. Sorry, BigD. I was sure I could recall several years ago (in your Pooky days) that you announced you were making the move after you had completed your English Teacher course and then a bit later (in your Eden days) that you were then moving over for 18 months.
  22. C'mon, BigD. Your imminent move has been put back more times than the friggin' A380 programme.
  23. Gary, You have my unreserved apologies. Just looked it up on Google ....... seems a nice place .......... Estimated population in July 2005: 3,533 According to our research there were 15 registered sex offenders living in Hicksville, Ohio in early 2007. The ratio of number of residents in Hicksville to the number of sex offenders is 236 to 1.
