  1. Found this company quoting £872 for 2 adults, 1 child and 1 infant to Bangkok, on Swiss. http://flyandgo.co.uk/flight_result.php?act=search# Thinking it was too good to be true I, emailed them but got no reply. Note they're not ABTA bonded either, just something called the TTA which I've never heard of. My instinct is to avoid them, but that price is very tempting. Found this, too. (Can't he;p thinking the last reply is less than impartial)- http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g29...e-Thailand.html
  2. I used to love the Thara. Bit pricey, but nice well equipped rooms, guest-friendly, nice pool area, good buffet breakfast, within walking distance of the beach and Bangla Road, and two entrances/exits (which could be handy sometimes) Having said that, it must be 4 or 5 years since I last stayed there, so don't take this as gospel.
  3. Aah, I loved the old Nipa Lodge. Stayed there twice a year from about 1990 till 2003, when an involvement with one of the receptionists all ended in tears (mine). Never saw the mini zoo though; where exactly was it? Used to love that garden with the pool and that little thatch-covered table, and sad when I saw it had all gone in favour of that awful crazy golf course. One of the staff told me that the hotel was originally built with chalets, but I'm not sure.
  4. Just to say a belated thanks for the reply Flighty. Much obliged. For various reasons I think Eva might be best for us.
  5. Hi. Looking for a LHR/BKK flight for mid April, and Jet Airways seem to keep coming back with the cheapest fares. Bit of an unknown quantity to me, so does anyone have any experience or info on them, please? One thing that's an issue for us is the 9.30am departure from LHR, as it makes travelling from the Midlands a bit difficult. Thanks very much for any help.

  7. Hi. Been out of the travel market for a while, so hoping for some up-to-date advice on flights from the UK to Bangkok in February. Want to avoid Heathrow & Gatwick if at all possible, but need good connections and good IFE because the party includes a 6 year old child and an infant. London City with Swiss & Thai was a firm favourite, but now seems expensive and hard to find. Humberside is closest to where we live, but the connections inbound are not good. Thanks very much for any ideas or tips.
  8. Yeah, I've read it. Got home from work tonight completely knackered, wet, thoroughly pissed off, to read that some idle gits are living it up in Patters on the taxes I pay. Funny old world...
  9. For the past 2 or 3 years I've been using Swiss Business, going LCY-ZUR-BKK, and I've loved it. Check-in at London City can be as little as 20 mins before departure, and with around 5 departures a day (usually an Avro RJ100), and the codeshare with Thai, you get plenty of flexibility. As Cheshire Tom says, you might want to avoid the worn-out old Thai MD-11s, but they also use worn-out old 747s quite frequently. Still like Thai though, if only for the great service on board. Come to think of it, I'd imagine the MD-11s days are numbered now they're taking delivery of A340s? Swiss A340s are very
  10. Only flown Quaint Arse once, and the service from the FA's was absolute shite. The little lad in the seat in front of me was unsure what drink to take from the tray, and the stewardess glared at him and said "LOOK, IT'S JUICE OR WATER. JUST GO FOR IT" Everyone seemed to think it must be some kind of joke, until she stomped off. Poor little bugger was only about seven, and she probably spoiled his whole day.
  11. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/england/4192314.stm I can't take much more of this...
  12. If they're planning to start with 767s or A330s, does that suggest a stop in the Middle East or somewhere? Anyone know which London airport they're looking at, ie LHR or LGW?
