  1. I once stayed in the hotel in Soi Diamond - moved to the Royal Garden resort (as it was then) after one night due to non stop boom boxes! My fault for staying there.
  2. you can get BA business class (flat beds etc) to BKK for £1250 return. Only catch is you have to start your journey from Milan or Rome via LHR (as BA flights are much cheaper ex-Italy) - so you need to add on £30-50 for a no-frills flight out to Italy to connect. I have just booked leaving 22 June - less than £1300 including the connection out to Milan - not cheap, but a fantastic deal for BA bus class which is upwards of £3000 from London. That's the last of my redundancy money gone....need to find a job when i get back, but what the hell - better than squeezing my 6'4 17 stone hul
  3. I have just booked a room at the Grottino (www.grottino.com) - one stop away from Nana on the Skytrain or a few minutes walk from soi cowboy. Stayed last year - rooms are very nice and there is a separate (secure) street entrance which gives direct access to the rooms without going through the restaurant/lobby. THB 1700 nett.
  4. thanks = my dates have now changed, so will be back in time for first Ashes test.
  5. I stayed at the Sabai Lodge last October - paid THB 1950 for a Deluxe Ruen thai room. Very nice room and right next to the quiet Ruen thai pool. Rate for this coming October is now quoted as THB 2550, so quite an increase. For my visit in a few weeks, I have been quoted THB 1850 for a Deluxe Pool View room or THB 1550 for a Deluxe A room at the Sabai resort. Will probably give it a try.
  6. thanks Lex. Had some info from the hotel (see other thread). They are offering THB 1950 for 'Pool terrace' room or slightly less for one of the other types. Did you get any noise or other problems from the ongoing building of the rest of the hotel? ****ok, seen other answer on this****
  7. I emailed the new Sabai Resort to ask about prices. It seems only the front **Lobby Garden** part of the hotel is open (the hotel is divided into 3 areas). Room rates vary from THB 1050 to THB 1950 inc breakfast depending on type of room chosen. I would think there would be some construction noise as they are still working on the other 2 hotel areas. Rooms look nice, so I might give it a go when I arrive in a couple of weeks time and switch to the Sabai Lodge if there are problems with the on going works. I stayed at the old Weekender hotel on the same site a few years back - a bit sha
  8. agree, it's better to watch in a bar - although there are occasions when excess of beer/food/TGs make getting out of bed to go to a bar somewhat difficult
  9. anyone recommend a hotel in Pattaya with both ESPN and Star sports which is also guest friendly? No I'm not coming just to watch TV but with the Ashes and Lions tour going on it would be nice to have them if needed. thanks.
  10. Lex - any update on how things are at Sabai Resort- is the hotel fully open? Am thinking of booking for later this month - there is now some info on the website - seem to be quite a few different room types. Any tips? cheers.
