yeah, I've got another 5 years or so before my retirement from the navy, and will make a few more trips to complete the process and purchase a condo or house, I can't wait, I am getting to old after 25 years mucking around on these damm ships!lol...

Greeting fellow Board members; I have been working for Military Sealift Command for 25 years and plan on retirement in Thailand. I have been coming to Thailand for many years but just recently decided to make this my home. Plan on buying a condo or house, planning to spend about 2,000,000 to 3,000,000 baht, but so far a house seems a little out of my reach, but there seems to be a deal of condo's which are priced within my budget. Ok, having said all that...would appriciate any advice on the above, contracts, pitfalls, good deals ect. I should have the savings needed in about 4 years

Hey Pete, glad all is going well over there..still at sea but forced to head back to the USA for the first time in over four years because of documents expiring..but instead of hanging out in the US for 10-14 weeks I intend on spending my waiting time in Pattaya ..that is if the Swine flu problem does'nt stop me from getting into Thailand keep us all updated on the traval restrictions getting into Thailand ect..ok? all the best, Spring

Yes, they do. The only time we get dental work done for free is if its an emergency and we are traveling with the battle group when the emergency comes up, then we can get ANY medical treatment for free until we hit the next port, then we are on own

kasier71; I am on a US navy ship, but we are not active duty , but still fall under most of the rules, in other words we fall into a gray zone, carry weapons but not with all the benefits, its kind hard to explain spring

Oh yeah, I forgot to add, the price for the root canal and temp cap was $450 US , not sure yet what the perm cap will cost but I think the price list says $600 US here in Singapore, thats still less than the Sasebo navy base lists according to my MSO aboard ship spring

Doc, I ended up going to the seamens center since via e-mail they would completed the procedral in one setting. They drilled my top front inciser a bit, then did a root canal leaving the remaining tooth intact, then when I came back about an hour later put a temporary cap on same, until I return for the permanent one in about two weeks time, or I could just wait until Pattaya, which appears to be the only way I will get any time off, like the next day off to get the work done, a hellva way to have no duty the next day,huh? Hey BM's maybe some one can guide me in the right direction concerning teeth implants. I need to get at least one implant for a tooth that was knocked out when a cable snapped and smacked me in the kisser a couple days ago.(front inciser) I mean like prices, quality time reqiured ect... Well Pete, As we all know I don't eat too much, but make up for it in Bacardi of course I have worked the bar business before stateside and well aware of the many problems with a new business. Well, after checking after checking out the latest photos of some of the free lancers, I see the selection has gotten better or maybe I've been at sea too long I really should make an effort to meet a few instead of getting lost in my bottle of bacardi all the time I will sure have enough time with arriving about December 3rd and not departing until sometime after New Years eve....you know best laid plans and all..just have to wait and see if I stick to them this time. spring
