Chiang Mai: Downtown Inn

Does anybody know this hotel? Any recommendations?

I stayed there last month for a few nights. Cost was 900 a day which included a breakfast buffet for 2. Buffet was primarily western so TGF was loooking for some Issan food shortly after we finished breakfast. Hotel is located near the night market. Nothing great about the place but also nothing bad. I went with a buddy to Chaing Mai who made the arrangements so I didn't do any research to see if there was anything better.

 

If you need a driver I have the contact info for one who charged 100 baht an hour to drive you around town in a tuk tuk or 1000 baht a day for a car to take you around the surrounding area who speaks English.

Thanks, Emil. Also thanks your offer but not needed. I go to C.M. on a regular basis, reason for asking about this hotel is that my regular hotel (Pornping) does not have any rooms with double bed free for the time I need it. And I hate having those 2 single beds! So have to look for another place and this one was offered to me for a reasonable price (1000 for a deluxe room but every 3rd night for free).

You might want to try the diamond riverside hotel in C.M. The newer wing and not the old hotel. Rooms have a view of the river has swimming pool. Mostly used by asian tourists. Buffet breakfast was good. The rooms are ok. Also for a great place to eat try the Antique house. Its on the same street as diamond riverside and pornping hotel. Some of the best food I have ever had in thailand. And if your looking to get away from Downtown I recomment the Sua Bua Resort. Its about 35 minutes from Dwntwn and is a great hotel. The Jr. suites at $75.00 cant be beat. They are huge and even have 2 bathrooms. The grounds are gorgeous and the staff is excellent. The have a shuttle bus that runs downtown every evening.

Thanks, packhide, stayed in the riverside already. As you said rooms are ok but that it the only thing ok in this hotel. Everything else - including breakfast which I personally found disgusting! - was terrible. Thanks for the other tip as well but I like to stay downtown and as I am there for only 3 or 4 days I only need a bed so want to spend my money on something else. Thanks, anyway.

Anyone stayed at the Tamarind Inn in Chiang Mai? Thinking of staying there in early june for 4 or 5 days with the misses. any help would be appreciates.

I have to admit the diamond riverside is a hit and miss hotel The first time I stayed there was a month in the old wing(its out front across from pornping) the rooms were nothing to write home out but at 300 bt a nite were cheap for the location( I stayed one month) The next time I went there stayed in the newer wing with wife and her parents (thai) The breakfast was ok while we were there but then maybe by then I had gone a little bit native

 

I have talked to a few people who have stayed at the downtown inn and they seemed to like it. But again this is second hand knowledge
