hello ive just booked on eva to go to bangkok in october in evergreen deluxe, i normally fly thai and havent gone with eva since 2002. on checking their website ive got 12000 (ish!) miles which expire the end of this year, now! it says you can transfer the miles from other family members (my wife and daughter in this case) into your own account? if so i had a look and it says its 30000 miles for an up-grade? if so i guess i can just transfer the miles over? and if i can and even if the mileage i get 35,000 isnt enough at least i will get a hotel for a night free? so basically has anybody done this b4? and if so is it relatively simple ? eg a phone call? cheers in advance guys!

marleyboy,

Notwithstanding your second post, I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago. My experience with transferring miles was ridiculous. In the end, I simply converted my miles to hotel upgrades which have an additional year's validity and lorded it at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit for a couple of nights. B)

IMHO Thai has abandoned its economy pax to concentrate on the front end of the aircraft as witnessed by the lack of any tangible improvements in their economy product during the 747 refurbishments. It looks like the London crowd will have to wait 3-4 years when the A380 comes online to witness any improvements. Given that EVA are putting all new aircraft on the London route in a couple of months (and their miles don't expire quicker than you can accumulate them), the choice between Thai and EVA should really be a no-brainer. :chogdee2

The oft-repeated claim that Thai offers a 34 inch seat-pitch in economy is also a bit of a fallacy. In fact, they offer a maximum of 34 inches but half their economy seats are 33 inches or less as can be seen in their seat map for the 747.

Let's not forget Thai's new policy, no frequent flyer miles for the cheapest seats. I agree it's a no brainer.

I understand that due to tech problems yesterday's New York "non-stop" service was replaced by the new A340-600 flying via Osaka. I would assume there were a few pissed-off people in New York. :banghead

I just booked an paid for my November trip. JFK to BKK direct sitting in economy class. Does this mean I won't be getting any miles???????? :clueless

I booked on the Thai website, I guess I'm gonna try and call them now for clarification.

Thanks,

You're going to have to call to confirm whether or not you'll receive FF miles. It usually goes by booking class. The lower the class, the lower the FF miles. TG's non-FF miles fares are "W' and "V". These will run about $600 RT US-BKK. I'd venture to guess the non-stop JFK-BKK-JFK will receive FF miles because TG offers lower fares on the B744s.

The A345 had an engine problem pushing the A346 into service on this route.

Sorry if I have hijacked this thread. If I post again, I will start another topic.

well it looks like my feelings are the same as you guys! im gonna book eva from now on! ive flown thai for 4 or 5 years now and i went last march last december this march and i was gonna go with them in october ! but not now! and as ive said b4 i flew thai business going to bangkok in december and then again from bangkok to london in april and i wasnt impressed at all! so roll on evergreen deluxe! (and i found out only today that you get 125% miles in deluxe!?) so as tom says it looks like tom are really alienating their r.o.p. members by not allowing mileage accrual for every class of ticket! well thats it ! my ranting is over! cheers guys!

I just booked my flight EVA air for October 30 SFO-BKK with return December 2,

$ 819++ came to $ 961.15 inclusive of charges for a Deluxe Economy seat.

I prefer Cathay Pacific's service but at $1100 plus for economy...I will settle for Deluxe economy anyday.
