I grabbed this off the Thai Visa page just before:

PATTANI: -- A small bomb exploded at the Big C Superstore in Pattani Monday afternoon, injuring one person and forcing the evacuation of customers and staff, in the latest of a string of attacks in the troubled region within less than 24 hours.

Police said the bomb, hidden in a plant pot, was triggered remotely by a cell phone signal, and damaged two cars parked near the store.

I know this is yet another attack in the south of Thailand, which seems a long way away to us Bangkok and Pattaya travellers, BUT ....

What are the chances that the terrorists will remain contained down there? By hitting such an icon as a Big C shopping centre they, IMHO, have raised the stakes yet again.

I hear this and I visualise the Big C or Royal Dolphin, in Pattaya with a kilo or 2 of semtex let off.

Lets not even consider Walking St :ang2 :o The other week at about 9pm I saw a green van slowly making its way down the street, apparently allowed through by the TPV's. I wonder what the given reason was? I wonder if it was searched? Low season or not, I reckon there were probably 5 to 800 people in the street at the time. Doesn't bear thinking does it. :D

I don't think they've raised the stakes, didn't they bomb a Carrefour and airport in one of those southern provinces a few months back?

Lemons

Hi lemons like emil says its nothing new here is a link from the airport bomb.http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=31064

I like you are worried about some fanatics hitting pattaya it would be very easy for them, i just hope the powerful fanatics that we are used to seeing or hearing about do not give the thai muslims a helping hand. Some people think they would never hit the likes of pattaya but i think many thought the same about bali.

They like to kill as many white folk as possible and the likes of pattaya would be an easy target for the fanatics as imo there would be willing bombers in south thailand all they need is the right gear and someone to fill them with bullshit about allah etc.Good luck.
