I follow the Thai custom and leave the loose change as a tip. If I have two or more in my party, I'll leave a little more. If I'm in a bar drinking for awhile I'll leave 10 or 20 depending on how long I'm there. When I ride in a cab, I round up. Thailand is a no tipping country and let's keep it that way.

I dont think you'll find a Thai who doesnt want a tip not in a restraunt or beerbar anyway.

However I once tried to tip the local electrician in my condo but he was having none of it.

No any tips unless some extra service. If you want to favour a BG, give the tip to her hand, not to the tray. The tray tip goes for share, the hand tip goes for her.

They won't be offended and will appreciate it. Like Gabor pointed out if you leave the money on the tray it will be shared by the entire staff and if you place it in their hand it won't be shared. If I've eaten in a restaurant and the service is good and the food is good then I'll leave some baht on the tray and place some in the waistresses hand.

Maybe that's because you tried to give him cash. I think he'd be more open to receiving a token gift or some other consideration instead.

In restaurants, I tend to leave a 20 baht tip, mainly because I am desperate to hoarde as many coins as possible for use on the baht buses. Having said that, the driver of bus 121 deserves mention as he gave me 10 baht change the other day from a 20 baht note for a journey from View Talay 2 to Central Road.

Tip if you feel like it. I'm sure they will not be offended. If somebody wanted to give me extra money i would not be offended.

If I'm getting a real bargain and excellent service (especially compared to the UK) then I will tip what I feel like giving. That may range from 10 Baht to 100 Baht, depends what kind of mood I'm in.

Do as you please. Do not be told what to do from here.
