Hi hawkeyes,

Like you i take TQ's, there is a small charge for stamp duty or something, i think it's 3 baht. But then there is a 30 baht charge per cheque, so if possible you want

your cheques for £100 each. the exchange rate is slightly higher for TQ's also. There are exchange places all over Pattaya but i like to go in the daytime as i feel

it's safer. :D

I don't recall the service charge, but I did notice a major difference between cashing them at the hotel, and cashing them at the bank in the Royal Garden Plaza.

Between the exchange rate (41 vs. 38) and the service fee vs. per check fee, when cashing in $300 (USD) at the hotel I was getting about 1000Bt less than when cashing at the bank.

Lesson learned: Only cash TC's at the hotel in case of emergency!

It's 33 Baht per cheque so take £100.00 cheques.

And still a better rate than cash + it's safe.

Why bother with TC's? Just use ATM's and save yourself a load of hassle.  :nod

I always carry some T/C to los as well as atm cards for backup cash sources

i have never used a credit card in pattaya yet but carry one for dire emergencies

ps if doing a side trip to the philippines avoid t/cs as too hard to cash

I bring an assortment of Travelers Cheques, cash, and a couple of ATM cards.

The Travelers Cheques I only bring $500 ones, when you are billed for cashing

TC's it is the same price no matter how much they are worth.. So don't bring lower valued ones..

Bringing $ or pounds.. One should bring $100 denomination. For the lower bills 50, 20, 10, etc.. one gets a lower exchange rate.. I believe that it is the same for pounds as well.. Only bring lots of lower value $ if you are going on a side trip to cambodia..

ATM cards are good throughout Pattaya/BKK.. Some bring debit cards with a set limit on each of them.. Others bring cards which have no foreign ATM withdrawal fees..

Get yourself a Nationwide FlexAccount for the next time, no charges for their ATM or Credit Card use anywhere !!!!!

TCs are safe, rates only vary minutely between exchange booths, and as somebody said, charges are 33 Baht per cheque, so bring larger denominations.
