Hi all,

I'm heading to Pattaya for the first time on Nov 1. I saw all the great reviews for the Queen Victoria, and I think that it will be a place to stay. But... I have see posts mention having to go up stairs. Now I'm not incapable of climbing the occasional staircase, but how many floors does the Queen Victoria. I really like the looks of the deluxe rooms. Do you know what floors they are on? Any chance of heart attack prior to even entering the rooms :) ?

Thanks in advance

Mojoke

Hi, Majoka,

The delux rooms are on the top floor, from the bar this is 3 stories up. I,ve stayed at the QV for the last 4 years, last year for 4 months, I always stay in room 14 on the first floor as I am getting old and don't like climbing to many steps. Plus the steps are steep. There is a second entrance on Soi 6/1 via the fire escape which is less steep Rooms 14 and 15 both look out onto Soi 6 :thumbup but do not have a balcony but the rooms are very good, TV, DVD, tea and coffee making facilties fan and A/C. and ample room.

The only down side is the noise from Soi 6 if there is a party going on. If you want it quieter choose room 12 on the same floor but facing Soi 6/1 which is a lot quieter.

Hope this helps cheers Doug.

Hi doolish i am thinking of staying at the queen vic but you say the rear entrance is a fire escape it doesnt sound very safe is it a old metal type one or is it just stairs, what do the bargirls think about using them when they are with you.

Queen Vic - payed for two nights, stayed one and checked out!

My own humble opinion.

1. Room smelt of cigarettes - although I acknowledge I'm sensitive to this - if this is an issue, consider alternatives?

2. Rooms cleanish but not perfect by a long way - bathroom is VERY basic - dirty bathroom tiles - looked like the bathroom was in dire need of a springclean - I am quite fussy concerning bathrooms - the Sabai Inn/Resort were very good in this respect.

3. Fire escape is an issue - it's metal ,solid and STEEP!- it's easy for someone to climb up and tap on the window - if this happens after pub closes, its possible to find yourself in a spot of bother - remember in Pattaya, 'no one can hear you scream!' You cannot place a price on a good hotel security team - when needed, they can save your bacon :thumbup

4. After flying half way around the world to LOS, why live above a pub??

5. Noisy!

6.Well kitted out rooms.

7. Darkish but so are many hotels!

8. Soi 6/1 is NOT quiet in the evening - my rrom faced this soi and the music from the bars opposite made rest impossible before 1am - 2am - not that most people would be in bed my 10pm :clueless but sometimes it's nice to have a nap!

Reasonable value for 700 baht - however the Sabai Inn offers cleaner, quieter accomodation for the same price.

However, I acknowledge many punters are comfortable in this enviroment, so each to his own!

Hi Oxman,

The rear stairs are metal but are not the old fashioned type, They are quite wide, two people can go up side by side and are they are quite safe and solid, when you get up to your floor there's a balcony with a good concrete wall on the out side uou have a key to open the door to get inside. They do this because the bar closes at 0200Hrs and you can't get into it. Before the bar closes there is a entrance on the ground floor. The fire escape is handy because if you do not want to bring a BG down Soi 6 you use Soi 6/1, so the girls on 6 don't see. I'm old and unsteady on my feet, not with drink, and I feel safe on them. The BG's do not mind using them, at least no one complained to me, and some of them thought it was good because they did not like going through the bar and everybody looking at them. I would not let it put you off.

Fly out from Man. on the 13 Sept. but will be going up to Udon Thani where I have bought a house and living with my girlfriend so I cannot visit the QV by myself as she used to work for the boss there, and the grape vine will reach her, so i'm staying in Bangkok for a couple of night :clueless before flying to Udon. Last month I flew down with Asia Air 908B single if booked on the internet. 1440B if you book at airport.

Cheers Doug.

PS they have a serurity guard on duty at night time at the bottom of the steps. But you will always get drunks making a loud noise and slamming doors no matter where you stay. And the food is good. I enjoyed my stay but must admit around Xmas and newyear 6 is noisy. If you don't like noise Tropical Bert's, the owner worked as manager in the QV. has opened on Soi 6/1 and the rooms are far superior, but he hasn't many rooms and you have to book in advance, same price as QV and I believe he gives a 10% discount to guests on food and drink. This is a new building at the top of 6/1 2nd road end.

Doug.

Tropical Bert's better rooms but saftey deposit boxes downstairs only - NO in room safes.

No matter how hard I try - I cannot use saftey deposit boxes - problem is arriving back in room with BG, after bar has closed - this means sleeping with an unknown girl, with wallet, cash, camera, watch ect: at her mercy! I'd not be able to sleep!

Hi Mojoke. I am currently staying in one of the deluxe rooms, and have no complaints. This is my second stay here and I pretty much agree with all of doolish's points. I have stayed at many hotels in Pattaya (Lido, Ma Maison, Hard Rock, Royal Garden to name a few), and you would be hard pressed to find as good a place for the money. The fire escape entrance is actually a convenience, and is always monitored by security/taxi staff. Soi 6 does get noisy, usually from 1pm to 1 am, then winds down by 2 am. The deluxe rooms are on the 4th floor (American), and the stairs are a little steep. Vic the owner will check in periodically and make sure you are satisfied with the place. My buddy next store had a broken shower head, and Vic had it replaced immediately. The food downstairs is great, the girls are friendly, and the in-room Wifi is pretty fast.

I agree with everything p3squid said, plus you have the entertainment value of the Soi 6 girls all day.

The bars all close by about 1am so there's little noise to disturb your sleep between 1am & 1pm.

Used to stay at the Whitehouse (Soi 13) - great hotel but I prefer the activity of a busy Soi during the day.
