Good day everyone,

I am presently looking into going to Thailand in the following months. At this point, i am unsure when exactly i would like to go. I have read a lot on several sites about the different seasons in Thailand and the cost to travel there during those seasons.

It seems that the best time to go is between November and February. but i have noticed that almost if not all hotels charge double the price during that period. And although i haven't really seen any information on this, i'm sure everything else ( i.e. Markets, Bars, Tourist attractions etc... ) is most likely more expensive ?

Because of that, i am maybe thinking on pushing my trip during the rainy season which seems to be between next June and October of 2007.Now my question is this; when they say " Rainy Season " does it mean that i would have to stay indoor or at the least carry an umbrella all day or are we talking of only one big shower that lasts only a short time each day ? I have read on different sites that the showers are daily but of short duration. Is that correct ? And if it is correct, what period WITHIN the rainy season does it rain less ?

Thanks in advance for any information you guys can give me on this. Like i said, i already looked on the net for some answers but since i found this forum today, I thought it would be better to get an answer from people that have extensive experience with that country then websites that will promote anything to get tourists to go there no matter what.

Welcome to the board. I wouldn't worry too much about prices even during high season. The only major things that are expensive are the plane tickets and the hotels. Even then if search around enough I'm sure you will find something affordable. Scumbag had a thread with some pictures of flooding in Pattaya last week and if you look at Hammer's Ban Chang bar crawl photos he has some shots of the flooding as well.

If you want to escape the worst of the prices and rain then go between March and July. Whatever you do just go! :D

Before I moved over here, I used to visit in the last 2 weeks of November. IMHO that is an ideal time to visit Thailand. The rainy season is over though be prepared for the odd downpour. The humidity level is a lot lower as well. Also, the high season isn't in full swing then.

The rainy season is this month and October. When the rain comes it is torrential for an hour or two and parts of Pattaya may flood for a short time due to the drains being unable to cope with the sheer volume of water. The water drains away very quickly though. It's not necessary to carry an umbrella at all times though I do take one when going for dinner or on the prowl.

The absoloute best time to come to Thailand is any month that ends in the letter "Y"....or "H"....or "L" or "E" or "T" or "R"

  • 2 weeks later...

During rainy season it usually rains around 6 AM, 6 PM, and midnight. As stated elsewhere it usually rainds real hard, but then it stops and everthing dries out and an hour later you never knew it rained.
