Lawyer Needed

Recommended Posts

I was hoping some board members could steer me in the right direction. I am arriving in Pattaya on the 9th Feb, I currently own a Condo in Jomtein with my Thai wife and things haven't worked out as good as I wanted (read between the lines - she wants to leave me).

I am an Aussie and desperately want to get the contact numbers of a reliable English speaking Lawyer in Pattaya as I would like to contact him before I fly out to ensure that I have all the paperwork I need.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Best of luck with these problems, but I have found that in general when the title of this thread is encountered in life, you're about to get screwed one way or the other -- so I advise you to lower your expectations all the way to ground level. That's the only way to avoid disappointment.

It's my observations through the years that when a lawyer appears to be needed, you will come out ahead not getting one and simply giving the other party absolutely everything they want. Lawyers are parasites to that extent.

I agree with Owen on this. I have been visiting Pattaya for 10 years and heard many stories similar to yours. If your condo is in both you and your wife's name, your chances of being awarded financial compensation are slim. If it is in just her name the chances are nil.

I believe Owen's point is why give money to an attorney who will tell you what you want to hear just to be able to bill you hours. Attorneys will slime you in any country. Thailand is even worse (if you are a falang).

An expensive lesson learned. Good Luck to you.

Well it depends on what you want to get out of it and what you are willing to risk to acheive that aim.

I was willing to give my life to see my wife of 8 years standing in front of the judge in Surin squirming. I acheived my aim ( obviously without getting killed - YET) with an amount of money I could afford.

Okay, I have no agenda here, guy. I don't know you -- and I can be wrong -- but I'll offer thoughts to help you.

1) Want to know the most used expression by a lawyer talking to a client who lost his case? "It could have been much worse." See, it's all about the lawyer and making himself look good. It was all about him from the very start.

2) Here's another great lawyer expression, used to all clients. "We are NOT going to let them get away with that!!" See, he has to be sure he keeps you pumped up and angry. Anger is the lifeblood of lawyers. Repeat. Anger is the lifeblood of lawyers. Angry people do not settle. Angry people fight longer. That clock ticking is billable hours.

3) Guy, seriously, of all truths in the world, the following one is the most profound and the most universal. Please consider it: The best revenge is living well. It truly is.

Owen,

you are in luck. I have an acquaintance that has set up shop in BKK. He is an attorney from San Francsisco. He sued the state of CA and won several million dollars for descriminating against white males. He is super sharp and love thailand. He will be in Bkk soon but already has a shop and partner setuo their. Divorce and immigration is his thing. I will try to see if I can find his thai number and post it. If he can't help the thai twins across form the embassy have everything wired.

For thailand and a divorce case it can be alot like chicago. It is not what you know but who you know. The thai twins by the US embassy in BKK are a pair of lawyers from Las Vegas. And they know a lot of amphurs judges etc. Thier fee may seem expensive until you consider the alternative. then it seem cheap. and they are very good. I will try to dig up some numbers. BUt I have posted them before for guys loking for marriages and visas.

Call Easy Visa on Pattaya Nua. Speak to Mr Lord.

He worked in the British Embassy in BKK for 20 yrs and has been in Thailand for 30.

He would be my first compensated consultation stop for legal affairs in LOS.

Good luck and be thankful it is only a condo issue. You would have a hopeless case with land.
