Sky-Top has limited availablity Xmas-New Year

Recommended Posts

Jack,

The reason I recommend Sky-Top isn't because I personally like Pete, it's because Sky-Top is inexpensive, clean, in room safe, TV, AC and fridge. No funny business with the bill and it's girl friendly. Add in a great location on 2nd Road, one block from the beach and spitting distance to soi 6. Sky-Top fits my needs.

When I walked by the place in mid Oct I noticed a "For Sale" sign outside. I thought that BigD should buy the place and put Mrs D to work as manager so that he could then chase the BGs while she's busy making the baht.

I thought about it but then again I don't need the hassle of guys who never stepped foot in Sky-Top posting nonsense about a business they know nothing about.

Jack,

The only thing that is dishonest is the owner of the guest house posting recommendations for his business on the forum whilst posing as a satisfied customer, likewise in the hotels review section. Oh, and folk such as yourself recommending the place based on your stay in the guest house of the same name which actually closed over a year ago.

Emil,

You forget that in one of his many Walter Mitty moments, BigD already ventured into the Pattaya hotel business (The Alamo Hotel?). Somewhat predictably, like his teaching career and Pattaya relocation, it proved to be short-lived. :D

I've been away from the board for a week, did I miss something about the relocation? The last I heard Denny was looking for someone to share a house for 6 months a year.

Not by a long shot as the same internal dynamics that either make or break Skytop are still there. 1. Same owner (with both his strengths and weaknesses), 2. Same location (albeit being 50 feet away from its old location) so it enjoys the same proximity to Big C, Sois 7 and 8, Soi Six and so on, 3. Same neighborhood as before with proximity to same bars, massage places, laundry, etc, 4. Same basic building type and structure (the old tourist police and Skytop building structures are similar), 5. Same basic renovation process as before (supervised by Pete) to adapt building interior to guesthouse rooms and so and lastly 6. An Internet cafe downstairs with the same computers and other equipment that used to be next door. In other words for those used to the old place the new one is not much different. But Tom, what you did was to state "Jack, The figures are also totally irrelevant since the place you stayed at has since closed" which although is technically correct seems to be deliberately stated in such a matter to dupe others into believing Skytop is finished so that you can tarnish Skytop for reasons that continue to baffle both Big D and me.

Either that or you really must believe people respect you for correcting me that the actual physical structure I once stayed in does not exist anymore and that therefore everything I had to say based on 11 months of experience is irrelevant. This is what I meant when I called you a pissant since you are trying to present yourself as being correct in a small minded way while trying to create a substantially different impression---ie......What I said earlier has no validity as the building has changed and the place is out of business. Big D stated this correctly when he said you were intellectually dishonest. Some would simply call you a liar even though technically you aren't.

What happened to your relocation? I thought you were staying for good.

Wife and I will be looking at houses from 20 December and she goes home on the 25th. I'm staying on to continue to look for a suitable place and we're looking to make the move next October. Plan is to spend the winter in Pattaya and back in Philadelphia for the summer.

Emil,

As you can see I answered his question recently and in a reasonable manner. Tom pulls his forgetful act frequently as I've explained before, Tom is intellectually dishonest.

I see your answer now, however your move date keeps changing. Last year around this time your posts indicated that you would be moving soon after your daughter's graduation from high school. Then a few months ago you posted about moving around the 1st of 08 and you were looking for someone to share renting a house. At that time I posted that for someone that was planning to move in a few months and hadn't found a place and also was looking for someone to share a house lacked advance planning. You then told me that you had it all planned out. Again, looking for a place in December and then not making the move until October is going to be difficult unless your willing to begin paying rent almost immediately.

Update on the Skytop rates. They start at 400 baht for a room without air conditioning. This small room is 450 baht with air conditioning. It is the middle sized rooms that go for 600 baht. So the Skytop web site is not accurate as to the rates, which means it's an even better deal than even Big D and I thought it was. I just received an e-mail from Pete that entirely refutes Cheshire Tom's allegations that his rates have gone up nearly 35 % but cross checked it by having my girlfriend call Skytop just so that no one could cast stones at my sources. The medium sized rooms went up 50 baht to 600 baht from their original price which represents just a 9.1 % increase, a far cry from the 33 % quoted here by Cheshire Tom. Pete stated in his email that the rooms are often discounted in the low season and further commented "THIS IS NOT THE RITZ BUT A CLEAN, FRIENDLY AND AFFORDABLE ACCOMmODATION HOUSE THAT EVEN OFFERS LIMITED INTERNET USE DAILY"

So, there you have it, accommodations for as low as 400 baht which is a far cry from what the Residence Garden is charging at 1400 baht a night. And sure, I'll be the first to admit there are other great deals in town. But Skytops got a combination of great features, including a great location, at a very modest price point.

I am still wondering what Pete ever did to Cheshire Tom to deserve all this huge distortion of the facts. Did Pete bang one of Tom's girlfriends, impregnate his daughter or what?

Pete and Sky-Top have nothing to do with Tom's distortions. He's coming after me and he thinks Sky-Top is an easy target to get to me.

I've never stayed there only seen photos and heard about the place from others. What I didn't care for about the place was that the rooms didn't have balconies as I like natural light (heard one report that one room didn't even have a window) in the room, fresh air blowing in and a place to air out and dry your clothes. Also the photos I saw of the bathroom left alot to be desired. Much better places to stay if you look around, Bella Vista between Sois 7 & 8 where offering rooms for 650 that includeed a breakfast. And while Skytop's daily rate is competitive among budget hotels I've never heard a monthly rate mentioned in all the years its been hyped. Location is vastly overstated unless one is staying at a location that is off the baht bus route.

Monthly rate is available and Pete will negotiate on price depending on the season. IMHO location is great. BigC is down the road about a 8-10 minute walk. Tops is about the same distance going the other way. Soi 6 is less then a two minute walk. Sometimes it takes longer for a break in traffic then it does to walk. Last but not least Beach Road is one block away with easy access to Walking Street by baht bus.

One other plus for Sky-Top it's newly renovated with fresh paint on the walls. New tile on the floor and non slip tile in the new bathroom. I find the non slip tile very handy when I've had a few drinks and taking a shower with Ms Right Now.

Like I said before I have yet to hear what is the monthly rate, is it a secret? Many other place just as close or closer to good markets. Where I stayed before, the distance to Carrefour was about the same as the distance from the front of the Festivale Center to the back where the Big C is located and my cost worked out to less than 300 baht a day and we were the first to stay in the room.

If you want to find out what the monthly rate is www.skytopcenterpattaya.com and I'm sure Pete the owner will be more then glad to give you up to date info on your request.

Your right many other places just as close or closer to good markets as Sky-Top but I'm not talking about other places.

I don't want to find out what their monthly rate is, I made a statement that I've never heard what is their monthly rate. You made a statement earlier that you hype Skytop because of their low price, well how can one make a judgement about their low price if they don't know what is the price. You critize Tom for bad mouthing the place when he's never stayed there, yet you hype the place about their low prices, but appear to not know what is the price.

 well heres my 2 baht on the subject, i met pete thru some friends that had stayed at teh skytop, he seemed to be a good guy as I have drank w/him and now I have stayed at the old/new hotel, dont know a amn thing about any murder, course if you read patts news , it usually happens each week there!, now as afar as hotel, I think the new skytop is much better thn that of the old one,yes he did spend alot of baht upgrading anmaking it nicer than the old one, regardless Pete is a standup kinda guy who at this point has tried to help, give advice, and not to mention ,I thnk he really likes to see the guys have a good time, not to mention also, hes right in the middle of the action.! so yes I think its a good value for your money, and rrest assurred ,Pete and the skytop staff will/have always tried to make the stay the best one they could, are they the marriott? NO, but again you aint paying that kinda price. Now im unsure about all the back/fourth,but I for one can tell you this is a great place for the amount of baht per day!! and Pete will send you in the riht direction if you need a lil help!!!!! :D I have to admit, thanks to pete even at times i avent stayed there, he help make sure it wa an unforgettable trip, and IMHO, the hotel is not 5 star, but Pete and his staff are!!!!!! see ya soon!! and cheers to all!! :ang2

Nobody has made any criticism of the owner other than that he is a board member here (magpie) and has recommended his hotel on the pretext of being a satisfied customer. Nothing more, nothing less.

I could give pricing that was current as of last July or the punter could go on Sky-Top's website and get up to date pricing. For the long stay guest he can negotiate price with the owner and this will vary with low or high season stay.

Like I said before it's best for the guy to talk to Pete about long stay discounts or anything else.
