Emirates on-line check-in

i'm booked to fly in a weeks time and was looking at the Emirates site and seen that i can check-in on-line 2-24 hours before the flight, choose a seat,meals and when i get to the airport use the on-line check-in counter to check my baggage in and get a boarding pass 90 mins before so i dont have to queue.

 

has anyone used this service? and any advice when doing so?

It does exactly what it says on the tin!

 

Use emirates every time and do the online check-in. No problems whatsoever

 

There is a tab where you can reserve what seat you want when you actually book online too.

 

If your clever you will get maybe 2 seats free beside you on your dubai flight but forget the bangkok one as its always jam packed.

Emirates have introduced a new website, when I flew last week the online check-in wasn't working, no problem just check-in as normal at the airport. Hopefully its working ok now.

 

You can chose your seat when you book your ticket or at any time afterwards, just click manage a booking and enter booking reference number.

 

No problems for me so far.

I fly Emirates most months and have found that if you don't book your seat when you first buy the ticket you are usually better waiting till you check in. If you get there early enough you can usually get a better seat from check in but like I say only if you get there early.

 

I am a Gold card member and when I try the 24 hour online check in you can usually only get the seats towards the rear of the aircraft, whereas if you go to the check in I normally get a seat in the first 6 rows. These seats were not available on the online check in system.

I'm flying Emirates for the first time in May in Business Class. I have pre-selected my seat and when I was doing this, it was surprising just how many seats were not available.

 

The downside is that I fly into Glasgow rather than Edinburgh but the monetary saving is worth the extra hassle. It's going to be a pain in the arse to get to Glasgow Airport for noon from where I'll be staying though.

You should consider Qatar through MAN. Around 20-30,000 Baht cheaper than Emirates and they have an partnership agreement with BMI. Because the flights alternate between day and evening flights you can book to arrive in MAN at around 6 a.m. and depart in the evening at 8:30 p.m. which makes getting to/from Edinburgh a piece of cake.

I'll think about them for my next trip but for May, the flight timings don't fit in too well with my travel plans. The Bangkok to Manchester is about 30,000 baht cheaper than Emirates.

 

What's the lounge at Doha Airport like for waiting betwen flights as depending on the day I fly, I could have some 7 hours to kill - not exactly my idea of fun!

The lounge at Doha was recently voted as the best in the business. It is not a lounge but a completely separate terminal with its own Duty Free etc.

 

I just made the trip to go back for the Italy game except that I picked up a hire car at MAN rather than flying to EDI.

I sometimes fly business clas and this entitles you to a free chauffeur pick up and drop off service. This service doesn't apply in Thailand but does in most other Emirates destinations and certianly does in the UK.

 

I have used the Edinburg to Glasgow service a couple of times and it take approx 45 minutes and the cars are usually Merc or big Volvos.

Thanks for that Graham - I had seen that service and it will be ideal for getting into Edinburgh after I arrive, but I am then going on to Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife. According to Google maps, it's almost 90 miles and as Emirate's web site says the first 70 miles are free, it would cost me at least £51 on the way back.

 

Even if I followed my current plan and got driven to Kirkcaldy, it's still borderline as to whether it's free or not.

 

Another option, which may be the one I take is to stay in Edinburgh for the last night.

I've just had another look at Google maps but changing the route to what I believed to be a more direct one and sure enough, it is 7 miles shorter but takes some 15 minutes longer. The advantage of this route is that it avoids the Forth Road Bridge and the perpetual roadworks on it!
