Easiest Wire transfers from USA?

Recommended Posts

Fidelity is the reason for my problem as that is where my money is and you are correct they are impossible to work with for international transfers

They are impossible to work with at all times unless they are taking in your money. They are one of the worst companies I have ever had to deal with. They cost me big money with their incompetence and disdain for customers.

The biggest problem you will have currently is opening a new bank account.

Unless you have a one-year visa, work permit or retirement visa, you cannot open a new bank account in Thailand. I have tried a dozen different banks and branches in the last 6 months.

If any of you have knowledge that I am unaware of let, let me know.

Yeah, to get a retirement visa, you have to have a Thai bank account, and a lot of banks won't open an account for you without a year-long visa. A bit of a catch 22. After checking with a number banks, finally tried Bangkok Bank, and they opened an account for me, no problem(didn't have to go to immigration). I have also heard that Kasikorn Bank is very friendly to foreigners.

A friend of mine wanted to open an account with Siam Commercial Bank. He wanted Siam bank because it was in a convenient location. They would not allow him to open the account with a tourist visa. I took him to immigration and we explained to immigration that the bank wouldn't allow my friend to open an account and that he had to have a bank account to get his retitrement visa. Immigration gave him a paper to give to the bank. I have no idea what the paper said (Thai) but Siam Commercial opened an account for him and gave him an ATM card the same day. My friend was over 50 years old so I don't know if immigration would help a younger guy.

It is a certificate of residency. Get the form at Immigration. Need receipts for rent etc to show where you live. One or 2 pics and some baht.

With this paper you can get bank account to use for retirement visa.

Copy of my rental agreement (take the original along too), 2 photos, copies of passport (picture page, TM card/ stamp and visa...non-Imm-O in my case). Original passport. Completed form and of course 200 baht. That did it for me, had 3 residence letters in the last 2 months. Edited by jacko
