Hi All,

Just a heads up, I have booked a flight with Jet via Mumbai for £380. Leaves on 18th retuning early April. I always prefer direct but with Thai quoting £515 I am basically saving most of my accommodation costs for about 4 hours inconvenience.

Saw a similar deal about a week ago for leaving on 11th but couldn't re-organize my work schedule in time to book it...

Think this is the cheapest I have encountered....

oh yes.. booked through expedia which I think for the first time ever was the cheapest...

Thanks for the info

Flew Jet last time and had no problems. Ok it wasnt 5 star and Mumbai is not that great but so what. For £380 its a steal. I would go with Jet ahead of Thai if they were the same price. Thai has detoriated very badly in the last 3 years and must be one of the only airlines that have a direct flight over 10 hours with no personal TV.

I flew with them just after they started the LHR route. They were half price of any other available option on short notice and so yes, I saved the cash. Fine in many respects but shit cramped second leg, just a little too long at 4.5 hours on a small plane. The transit at Bombay was terrible. Walking down endless thin corridors with supporting pillars blocking the way everywhere. No carts. Then some Hitlers wanting you to go through another security check and them wanting to take lighters and shit from you. A lot of hassle.

I would use them again purely on price. Comparing them to Thai is not good because Thai are shit. The only thing Thai are good at is that they go direct. If they were indirect, no-one would use them.

How much extra I would pay for Etihad I do not know. £100 ? sure. £200 ? perhaps that is the level when I start to reconsider Jet ?

First time ever I had my lighters taken from me was with Yet as well. No idea why the insisted on doing so? Luckily I wasnt pissed when getting on the plane so just handed it to them instead of arguing about it.

The transfer at Mumbai is a nightmare indeed. Long walks and very tight security. Not much fun seeing some young soldier looking at you with a machine gun in his hand looking like shit can kick off any minute.

I only flew back with them from BKK to LHR and found the seats on the first leg to be small as well but MUM/LHR was brilliant seat wise. Food is crap but thats almost everywhere I guess

Yeah, if they had the 777s on the BOM-BKK leg as well as the LHR_BOM one, it would be hard to say no. Good aircraft, IFE very good, food very good also if your selection is available (I love curry). Some bottles of wine and off to sleep we go. Very similar to Etihad until you get to India - then it all goes to shit.

I love a good curry as well but that surely wasnt what I got. Stomach was in bits after some Zithromax so that didnt help much either.

Mumbai airport is certainly not a place I'd like be stuck in for a day nevermind taking a stroll in the area. The place is in the middle of the slums

Agree with torrenova and Mighty One. If you're in a money saving mood it's ok. But don't undo all the work you've done saving on the flight with 'some sort of excess' when you're in town. I used to manage to go through about 2k sterling for a fortnight once I hit the spots. :banghead. Another consideration is convenience, ie timing of flights, whether you're paying for unnecessary days in the hotel...
