The phrase, whooped his ass, comes to mind.

In the mid 70's, five top Kung-Fu fighters from Hong Kong came to Bangkok to fight(organised) Thai Boxers.

Within TWO minutes they were all knocked out.

The Thai guy is absolutely 100% focused on his job, the TKD fighter is too preoccupied with fannying about with his "gi" and trying to look good, with a silly smirk on his face. No competition. These guys learn in infancy, and their shins are friggin impervious to pain! Don't fuck with a Thai. (He'll have friends too!)

Very interesting and salutory video. Both Muay Thai and TKD are sports, and therefore have rules (unlike the street), but Muay Thai has not degenerated into a sport and is more focused on real combat. The MT man held back whenever his opponent hit the floor for any reason, clearly obeying the rules for that match, but that would not apply for real - game over for sure. Also note how much the TKD man hops about - wasting precious energy - while the MT man is calm and focused. The clip also illustrates the uselessness of long-range kicks against an alert opponent - sheer nonsense in a real environment but of course showy in the dojo or ring - if they work. Had to laugh out loud at the attempted reverse spinning kicks, which failed every time because the range was closed by the MT man. No wonder seasoned street-fighters have almost zero respect for the 'martial sports' - what they do only works in competitions with set rules, and TKD is a prime offender in this respect.

i Like Krav Maga best and you guys have a great school in Pattaya

i do it in Brum and it certainly keep you alert and you learn things which could save your life such as grain, eye and throat attacks which you never do in sport fighting

These were still popular in Ratchadamnoen well into the mid, even late 1980s. They'd have a night for one martial art versus Muay Thai. Those were absolutely packed out, those nights. Very good fun indeed.

hehe what a funny Video that was.

I did TKD for 2 years I looked so good in the Mirror but as a useful defence. no chance.....

My EX GF's family are all Thai Boxers and sparring with them regular I won by being sneaky and not obeying Muay Thai rules. i.e. not taking the literal sport aspect. I told them to attack me like they wanted to hurt but apart from being caught a couple of times although Powerful I found them slow.

Currently doing Wing Tsun and Monday night doing Blitz defence I marched a man over 6ft tall and a lot stronger than me (I'm 5ft 5-6) all across the roof of Chanpen bar.

He couldn't breathe there are decent forms of self defence out there that do not need super human fitness or strength. Muay Thai although good is not one of them, you need to be very fit and strong to do Muay Thai.

Tae Kwon Do is a bouncing competition.
