I think it was the Kaiser, actually.

Americans copied English from..................Have a wild guess Joe!!!!!!!!

The Scots have their own way of pronouncing some English. It's obviously wrong. Just as some of the American ways are wrong. I think we stick to all the correct spelling though.

The West Indies Cricket Team is made up of a group of islands, some of them do not particularly like one another, but it didn't stop them belting us in the 70's and 80's

Happily for us a lot of their best athletes have turned to other sports these days, Basket ball, Athletics and the like.

Anyone who thinks Cricket is boring would have changed their mind after facing an over from one of their big fast bowlers.

Try avoiding a ball coming at you throat at about 150km. They were terrifying.

OOPS! sorry .........football thread. :allright

Did you know that Siggi went on to become manager of Thailand ....

No I didn't Tom.

From memory, wasn't he a bit on the 'portly' side as a player ? Short gingery hair, a bit like Gazza ?

Still a handsome man in LOS though. :banghead

Unique means "one" and only one. I instantly thought of Singapore. Wouldn't surprise me if there are others but I'm lazy. You're not unique. Singapore's four nationalities with a common language revel in being ONE country, and you don't, so THAT part is unique. Maybe.

I'll not rub it in that your "four different nationalities" live on TWO islands, not just one tiny one. I won't rub it in a lot anyhow. (But I will hold it in reserve, just in case.)

Tried to get my head around this post and failed miserably.

Never knew that Singapore was comprised of four different distinct countries, nations or geographical regions....like a United Kingdom of Singapore.

Can anyone explain this because this major gap in my basic understanding of world geography is troubling me greatly...

Try harder. Try reading the post it replied to, that would be a help, I'd think. Going through the thread can be helpful in not embarrassing yourself by making sudden, off-kilter posts. For your edification: The original post claimed that Britain had four different nationalities living on one island and no other country had such a thing. In the post you commented on, I pointed out this was twice wrong. You chose to reply to a point that neither the original message nor my message mentioned. I suppose it's a simple error, but an error anyhow.

Did someone write that Singapore "was comprised of" four different distinct countries? I would think you would have quoted it if you had found that, surely. Not sure but it SEEMS you have a lot of straw there and have used some of it to construct a very fragile straw man, quoting me but replying to a point you made up all by yourself?
