Pity most don't refurbish more often, at the same time we are always asking to pay less, we want it both ways.

I mostly agree, but this place is long overdue a refurbish, and IMPO is overated and very expensive (particulary Monthly rates) for it's "Quality"!

Stevoman, do you stay at the Areca ?

It is probably one of the best run independent hotels in Pattaya.

They have just replaced all the TVs in the Deluxe rooms with 32 inch Sony LCDs.

Where else can you get 2 pools, 2 gyms, no joiner fee and breakfast for 2 for a similar price?

I know that Steve was the target here but the answer to your question is: a lot of places!

Of course I DON'T stay there! Only stayed the once, hence my personal opinion!

They have front desk staff with an arrogant attitude towards B/Gs.

I do not travel halfway around the world to watch TV!

I'm too old and dis-interested in both swimming pools and Gymnasiums!

A majority of places don't have Joiner fees!

I'm not interested in Breakfast, unless it's still served at around 7pm!

Finally I'm not very keen on parading my "Lady" of the night in front of large numbers of family groups, not that I'm ashamed or not proud of my conquest, more that I have to bite my tongue from making a caustic remark particulary to the growing numbers of White Whales that murmur quiet snide comments, meant to be heard, behind my back!

As stated before IMPO it's a very overpriced establishment nowadays living on a past reputation, and frequented now by increasing "Family: groups! Just "Not for me Ronnie"! :thumbup :allright

OK teelac, name a few with ALL of the above facilities and breakfast included.

Your target price is 1450 Baht.

What would be my MONTHLY target price? What is the present rate for a "Deluxe" room at the Areca in June/July?

I am with Steve on this.

I paid 1500 at LK Renaissance , granted only one pool, but I have always found it difficult swimming in two, at the same time.

Caught them at a bad time I think, walked and asked for price, they said 2300, I said I will be on my way, they said hang on we may be able to do better.

Very nice studio room, they put me in another for 2 nights,it was so big I couldn't see the bloody TV.

The last time I stayed there was in 2007 - std and delux rooms were verging on the "tired" side then, so after 4 more years a refurb is definitely overdue.

Good, but default option, but price increases means other better hotels can be had for similar price.
