pat809,

Firstly, thanks for a quality post.

The guy behind PIC and Sugar Hut, Dr Sunya Viravaidyai,  is quite an interesting bloke in his own right.  His brother, Mechai, is a former Health Minister and is the guy behind Cabbages and Condoms (restaurant in Bangkok and resort in Pattaya) which, incidentally is worth a visit if only for the gift shop and learning the history behind C&C.  Mechai also has the dubious distinction of having the Thai slang for condom (mechai) adopted in his honour.

The hospital is dedicated to their mother, a Scottish lady called Isabella McKinnon Robertson.  You will see her portrait on the wall when you eventually get round to visiting Dr Aree!

Regards,

Tom

Excellent post pat809 ;),

very detailed and interesting ;)

Nice pictures too!

My favorite restaurant I ate at quite a few times was the one at the penthouse hotel, I never got sick there, and the Thai style food was good enough for my TGs.  It was not the cheapest, but we never got sick ;)  M_H

In less that 33 days, I will be trying the food carts that were recommended, and the Boat Bakery.....its right up the street from the penthouse ;)  Maybe I'll try the water beetles too ???

Good informative post Pat.  I wish Pete had a review section on restaurants like he does with hotels on this site.  Another place you might want to try, which would be on the cheaper list, is the MK at the Big C (they also have one at the new mall on Central Rd).  They have duck and soup.  Your table has this pot of water on the table and you order all the meat and vegatables items that you want to throw into the pot and cook it yourself.  The TG's like the place and you can take your tilac and a few of her friends there and it won't set you back much.

Emil,

I am sure I can recall that there was a restaurant review section at one time (in the last 18 months or so).  I gave up reading it when I realised that Burger King had a higher average rating than Bruno's. :-/  Different strokes for different folks and all that......

Regards,

Tom
