My ATM card is part of the "Cirrus" system in the U.S. and my credit cards all seem to be the "Plus" system.  Any input on the compatibility of these systems with ATM's in LOS would be more than greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Having lousy time...wish I was there: 54 days and change to takeoff.

I use a Royal Bank of Scotland card for the Thai ATM's. The Cirrus system is compatible with all ATM showing the sign. You can draw up to 20000 Baht per day against your ATM card.

I have used my card at Bangkok Bank, Thai Farmers Bank, Krung Thai Bank and Thai Military Bank, all without any problems.

Dougie -

Thanks.  I'm just trying to do the math on the combo of traveler's cheques, cash and ATM withdrawls for the trip-to-be.  Your info is helpful.

I just returned from Thailand and had problems with my ATM card.  The magnetic strip was worn out, would not work in Thailand ATM's.   I do believe Cirrus is OK, however if your ATM has a Visa Logo on it you can go in the bank and do a cash advance and even save a few bucks in ATM fees.

I have both a debit card and credit card (VISA) from my credit union that allows me access to my checking account funds.  On the back of both cards are the COOP, STAR, and PLUS logos.  I always take both and keep one in the hotel security boxes, just in case I lose one are it becomes ineffective like kjvegas's.  Never had a problem finding a machine and have never been charge a fee from my credit union.

Soi 7,

There isn't a VISA logo on the debit card.  I saw your question on this issue elsewhere and the only reason I didn't answer is because the debit card is the one that I always leave in the hotel security box so I couldn't say for sure if it would work.  I plan on using it this upcoming trip to see if it would work before I let you know.  If it does work I will leave the charge card in the security box and carry the debit card on me for the reasons that you had brought up.

I was in Pattaya in January and that is when I had trouble with my ATM card (with visa logo, I was still able to take a cash advance in the bank) when I returned to America I ordered a new one.  When I went to activate the new at the bank the stupid woman went to cancel the old one but canceled the new one.  By now my next trip to Pattaya is coming up (I was in Pattaya 4/8-4/22) and the only card I had was my savings account ATM with no VISA logo.  The logo's on my Savings ATM is Cirrus, Star, Pulse, Instant Cash, the card worked no problem.    My next trip to Pattaya (three months) I have the new one (with visa logo) and my back up so I should be set.  Good luck
