Anyone know anything about the prevailing drug laws in Thailand?  Western popular culture paints a fairly tolerant view... but misplaced reliance upon such could prove to be fatally stupid under a bad set of given circumstances.  My friend will be visiting for the first time next month and I wanted to be able to advise him as to what the current situation was over there.  Thanks.

take drugs (hard or soft) sell drugs or buy drugs and get away with it good luck to you, get caught and you will not see freedom for a very long time, and if you saw the inside of a thai jail you would be contemplating suicide after 1 hour.

the new social order cuppled with police plants  (thai and ferang selling them and then arresting you) make drugs in thailand a no no, try reading warren fellows book called the damage down, where in one part he was made to stand in a 6 foot tank of thai/ferang shit for 10 hours and he turned the brown colur white after all the puking he did.

stay away from drugs or i should say low dher khun which translated means up to you. :'(

Maybe things are different on islands where full moon parties take place but in all my visits to Phuket and Pattaya I've never seen anybody openly smoking a spliff. IMHO if the police caught you in possession in either of these two places I'd guess you'd be banged up in the local monkey house until you cough up a substantial fine at the very least  :(

I'm also sure I read a few years ago that you are also responsible if drugs are found in your hotel room even if not on your person  :o

If you're going to do drugs use you're common sense and suss out the situation first but a Thai jail is not a place I'd like to spend a night never mind a sentence for drugs. You may even find when you get to LOS that there are other pleasures there that will give you a natural high and you won't feel the need to use anything other than a condom  ;)

Funnily enough just finished reading the Fellows book and yep it does make very worrying reading.  I don't use drugs myself at all and have now managed to quit smoking so just alcohol and coffee left for me now.

To anyone who has not got the message, mess with drugs in LOS and you are absolutely playing with fire.  Small amounts will get you in very big trouble, ecstasy is considered as serious as heroin (hence has same penalties), the Thai guy who sells to you will make a few extra Baht by telling the Thai police you have purchased etc.

Everyone should read the Fellows book - I bought it in WHSmith about 2 weeks ago.  Have a look.

  • 2 weeks later...

Reading Warren Fellows' book now. If there's ever been a good advert why not to use drugs in Thailand this is it.
