Guest House venture

Having been a Pattaya regular since 1994 I have seen many farang "bar owners" come (with money) and go (with none).

I wouldn't want to risk investing in bar-ownership but was wondering if anybody could offer advice on opening a small guest house.

Any advice on costs + pros and cons would be greatly appreciated.

dode... good to hear you're going in with your eyes open... you need to based on all the hard luck stories that are about the place. But of course, there's also some who have made it work...

 

Whilst I have no direct experience in this area.. I have been keeping an eye on this page, as it lists business opportunities in Pattaya & surrounds & offers insight into prices paid & what's included....

I think the one piece of advice I would offer is that in Thailand often all is not as it seems... I would think long & hard about investing money in a business in Thailand because I am sure that things are stacked against farangs... call me cynical.. but err on the side of caution is my advice!!

Thanks for the pointer towards Asiabugle. The business section has given me lots to think about cost-wise etc.

I appreciate what you say about being a farang and investing money in Thailand. I used to be very much opposed to the idea myself but.......every day listening to a garbled excuse about why my train's cancelled AGAIN, delays on the Northern line, paying over the odds for crappy sanwiches at lunchtime or pints of warm, flat lager then having to take night buses home coz black cabs don't go saaf of the river after 11pm has finally got to me and I'm now seriously thinking about taking a chance on a business in Pattaya. If it all goes pear shaped at least I can say to myself that I tried.

Dode, I know about as much as you do on the subject, but I am also interested in the proposition.  Let me know if you find out any more info or might want an opinion on anything you find...
