Displayed prices are for multiple nights. Check the site for price per night. I see hostels starting at 200b/day and hotels from 500b/day on agoda.

Alan, there's a fair bit of fixing to do that will remove the annoying system32 folder opening startup issue. Run Hijack This again, press scan and put a check mark against the following (I am working from top to bottom on your previous scan log): R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing O1 - Hosts: 217.116.231.7 aimtoday.aol.com12.129.205.209 search.netscape.com12.129.205.209 sitefinder.verisign.com O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0A28355C-1F91-A40D-886D-A91CDB01166D} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hdfvtmpt.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3F31857E-22F1-4752-4E10-3EC6EC99E3CC} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\urmxxuoo.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {59368E5A-D57B-F080-C413-CD0BA540D7A1} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\kvvsjifz.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {79C7E745-0D1D-EC1A-1B91-C624F6D6A4D4} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\othbuecv.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [updater] C:\Program Files\Common files\updater\wupdater.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [<H] c:\WINDOWS\System32\<HEAD> O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ <TITLE>Error</TI] c:\WINDOWS\System32\ <TITLE>Error</TITLE> O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [</H] c:\WINDOWS\System32\</HTML> O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [<B] c:\WINDOWS\System32\<BODY> O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [The site you have requested doesn't ex] c:\WINDOWS\System32\The site you have requested doesn't exist. If not, I would recommend uninstalling all AOL applications through Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. You will also want to remove the following files, it may take SAFE mode to do this... C:\WINDOWS\System32\hdfvtmpt.dll C:\WINDOWS\System32\urmxxuoo.dll C:\WINDOWS\System32\kvvsjifz.dll C:\WINDOWS\System32\othbuecv.dll C:\Program Files\Common files\updater\wupdater.exe (delete the whole directory) There is evidence of RapidBlaster on your system - you can download THIS application to remove it... it can be annoying to get rid of. Are you running a program called Evidence Eliminator? If so no probs, if not - then check the following: O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Evidence Eliminator] C:\Program Files\Evidence Eliminator\ee.exe /m You should also uninstall & delete these files if you are not using the program. Fingers crossed!!

Did you try this one Alan?? Let's give it a go before reinstalling windows.

Ok - before doing anything make sure you turns off system restore - you can always turn it back on when you know yr machine is clean: Right-click 'My Computer' then click 'Properties'. Click 'System Restore' tab then uncheck the box before 'Turn off System Restore' Click OK. Restart your computer. Once done, go to Housecall and run an online scan which will disinfect your system. Reboot once done. Next, download Ad-Aware After installing AAW, and before running the program, you need to FIRST update the reference file following the instructions here: http://www.lavahelp.com/howto/updref/index.html Now do the following: - Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine: check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning." - Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Cleaning Engine: Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot." Press "Scan Now" - Check option "Use Custom scanning options" - Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan" - Press "Select drives\folders to scan" - Select the active partition which is usually C: Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives... It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys. Right-click in that pane and choose "select all" Now press "Next" again. It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK. Finally, close Ad-Aware, and reboot. Doing the above should get rid the known spywares in your system. There's another one called Spybot - Search & Destroy - I'd recommend that you download & install this one too. Fairly self-explanatory. As a final step - download Hijack This. Please make a new folder to put your HijackThis.exe into. Anywhere on your hard drive is fine other than your Desktop or the Temp folder. We suggest you use something like "C:\Program Files\HijackThis" but feel free to use any name. This is to ensure it makes the necessary backups for recovery if needed. Download and save the contents to the new folder you made and then navigate to the HijackThis.exe. Then, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that and copy & paste its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet. I'll check back or you can PM to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results. Hope this helps! These pesky things are everywhere - I reckon every computer that spends any time on the internet is infected at one point or another. Having a good firewall will help. Windows XP users can download the lastest Service Pack 2 -from here but it is a BIG file! Over 270mb...

Ahhh... come on Steve... why are people not posting no more? Surely it can't be because Baz is straight up & says what's on his mind? Heaven help us if that's the case.... Ok - let's set ourselves a challenge gentlemen... I am sure there are many potential contributors to the board out there who, for a variety of reasons, have not shared their LOS experiences. This board is all about an exchange of experiences - hopefully so others can benefit. It's NOT about beating each other up over political, racist, or any other view..... there's plenty of other places we can go to get that! So... I will put together a trip report over the weekend that I should have written a long time ago - I would ask as many of you as possible to do the same. Let's get back to why we are here??? Please...

triplegee replied to Leadbelly's topic in Idle Chit Chat
great suggestion Ryu - I am prepared to do same with a CD i have called Talk-Now (learn Thai) - I can burn it and forward on. I would appreciate a copy of your Pimsleur stuff - I hear it is pretty good... Now... how are we going to manage these logistics?? ??? I have something I am prepared to pass on and you have something I want!! I will PM you with my address details - Bangkok FYI - let me know if you would like a copy of what I have - same goes to anyone else that is interested... Ghost - I have been looking at Kazaa for your files as well to no avail... thanks for trying tho!! Cheers guys, G3 -
Residence Garden Inn. Net connection
triplegee replied to Cess's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Cess - normal phone link only... good internet cafe very close by (exit hotel - turn left - walk about 100m)... the line speeds achieved in Pattaya (including RG) are typically 44.0 kbs and above - beats Bangkok!! Cheers, G3 -
Proper Clothing to wear to a Bar?

[glow=red,2,300]I don't pack white socks[/glow] ha! nice one papa... that's probably the best advice u can a man.... IMHO... -
Viper..... i can understand your curiosity as my Bangkok immigration experiences were amongst some of the worst I've had... any line will work - don't be put off by the signage.... even the ASEAN queue will process you.... just smile as you hand over your papers!! Oh yeah - if you get the over-zealous official who tries to steer you to the furtherest away queue just smile and say "mai pan rai krab" and stay where you are! It's also best to try and not have luggage because often you will berth at terminal 1 and your luggage is at terminal 2!! and it can be a long walk............... For those that have not been to Don Muang recently things are a lot better!! I used to think that Bangkok's airport was the pits of the earth but it has improved! The newer sections even have carpet!! And the immigration queues are a lot shorter..........regardless - we wouldn't let them get in the way of a good time in the LOS would we?? Cheers.... G3

Mats has quoted the right price ex-internet... there's a travel agent at the airport (near the train station platfform's)... they tend to do better prices & u can book with them a couple of hours before flight departure.... they're call Last Minute Travel Agent... phone number +662-566-2517... I've been able to get anywhere between 6,600 & 10,000 baht with them... They take Amex but will charge a surcharge... Chok dee... G3

dode... good to hear you're going in with your eyes open... you need to based on all the hard luck stories that are about the place. But of course, there's also some who have made it work... Whilst I have no direct experience in this area.. I have been keeping an eye on this page, as it lists business opportunities in Pattaya & surrounds & offers insight into prices paid & what's included.... http://asiabugle.com/Classified/Businessop...portunities.htm I think the one piece of advice I would offer is that in Thailand often all is not as it seems... I would think long & hard about investing money in a business in Thailand because I am sure that things are stacked against farangs... call me cynical.. but err on the side of caution is my advice!! Good luck mate.. hope it works out. Cheers, G3

Joop.... good advice on Kazaa... just make sure that you're aware of the "hidden" bits about Kazaa... Not only does it install ad-software that results in ads popping up in a series of unwelcome windows (recommend a pop-up stopper program be installed at same time) but it made the headlines on the 'net recently for the fact that there is functionality built into the software that will allow the makers of kazaa to tap into spare processor power, memory & hard-drive on all user's computer's at any point in time - thus creating a "super-computer"..... what this means for users is constant incoming & outgoing data packets or large use of bandwith - slowing down the pc & your internet connection... all sounds a bit suspicious to me... until I know more I have uninstalled kazaa and use morpheous instead altho i think they all have ulterior motives!! BTW - I have noticed that audiogalaxy has all but shut up shop recently!! No more free downloads... :'( Anyone know of a good MP3 search engine like audiogalaxy?? Enjoy fellas! G3

Jimmac.. I stayed at the Markland on my first trip to Pty - Jan this year... I was there to visit my TG she stayed with me for a week.. we registered as a couple so there was no guest issues... As for the hotel itself - I seem to recall that it was quite good value for money but I can't recall the rate I paid!! The room was probably the biggest hotel room I have ever stayed in... a lot of empty space tho & fairly dated... room service was good.. bathroom ok.. had a bath.. always comes in handy! ;D Good location... but I must say I have stayed in Pty 7 times since & have not returned!! Found better value for money at Eastinny Inn... but each to his own! Cheers. G3
