I am thinking of redeming 12000 Thai miles for a night at the Marriott Bangkok. I’ve never done this before and I was wondering if I will get charged any cash, or will the points be all I need. Reading through the booklet there is mention of taxes, service charges and expenses. Will I get hit with some of these even if I resist the temptation to use the mini bar and loom service?

Usually when you redeem points for rooms then that is everything except any additional costs you incur.

I suppose it is theoretically possible for them to request any government tax but where this is a percentage, "x" percentage of zero would still be zero.

Always confirm to be sure though. make sure whether breakfast is included too as both Marriotts do splendid breakfasts.

lasingmao,

If it is the same as the Sheraton you will get hit for 10% service and 7% tax on what they determine to be the cash equivalent of your stay.

Make sure the miles are worth it. Sometimes they are not when it comes to hotels.

Marriott is a 90-110USD hotel. Your 12,000 could be worth more on a strange flight somewhere (not Thai domestic). Just me 2B worth...
