Long term accomodation advice

Recommended Posts

If I can work out some details I may have the opportunity to move to Thailand and telecommute for my job back home. The earliest this would occur is next summer so I am very busy trying to figure out all the details which brings me to the purpose of this post.

I am looking for recommendations for long term housing. I will put my requiements below. I have been looking at several forums and am already considering Maxx Central, have sent them two emails but no response back yet. I will be coming to Pattaya in November so will do some on the ground research while there. BTW I am 56 so may 6-10 years away from retirement.

My needs.

1. Reliable hard wired internet - without it I would probably eventually have to return home to keep my job. I am thinking of getting two providers and using a dual wan router to give me more stability

2. I don't drive a motorbike and don't plan on starting any time soon especially in Pattaya so I need to be within short (5 or so min) walking distance to baht bus routes or moto taxi locations. I enjoy relaxing at the beach, so need to be able to get there and to markets easily.

3. I would prefer a 1 bedroom as I might have a gf staying with me at times and since I probably will be working late nights would want somewhere separate for her to sleep while I am working. If things don't work out with the young lady then a studio would be an option.

4. I am not too concerned about being in the middle of the action so that is not a requirement.

5. Budget - I would say anywhere from 10k to 30k baht a month, I know that is a big range. My preference would be to keep it as low as possible so I can save more money and shorten the time I have to work until I can just retire in Thailand, but I also want to be comfortable since this won't be a 2 week holiday.

Thanks for you advice

Scott

There are loads of available condo's in your price range. Pattaya is seriously over built with many more being built. Check out the classified ads in the Pattaya Mail. Plus walk up Beach Road and look around.

That pretty much kills all condos, you will be limited to what ever is there already, you can find one with hard wired lan (Most are wifi these days) but you will have zero chance of having a second hard wired lan from another provider installed.

Re-think this one and I might be able to answer you other questions.

Thanks for the tip BigD I will take a look at the offerings when I am in town in November to see what type of listings it has.

Maybe I won't need a second line so please add your suggestions. I just can't have a lot of ongoing outages while working or my boss may recall me. He and I already talked about possible internet / electrical outages so the occaisonal drop will be ok.

In terms of location, moto taxis are available just about everywhere but baht bus routes are pretty limited.

In central pattaya they are north to south on Beach road, second road and soi buakaow. beach and south roads are one way.

No baht bus service on third road.

East west it is pattaya north, central and south roads.

In Naklua, it is Naklua road and from pattaya south road a route goes down to Jomtien. There is no baht bus route in Wongamat, nor in Cosy beach in Jomtien...both nice beachside areas.

this does cover most areas within your 5-10 minutes of the beach criteria.
