Just reading a guys thailand trip review on www.go2phil.com and he was charged a 300baht joiner fee. Can anybody else connfirm this as if comfirmed this shifts them from a previously monger friendly hotel.

cut and pasted from his report;I get checked in my hotel about 8:30 and it is a nice place. Cost about 1130Baht a night but being a newbie I made a mistake. There is a 300Baht joiner fee. That means if I bring a woman back to the room I have to pay 300 extra. OK, I think, I am only here a few days. The hotel is the Pattaya Center Hotel on Soi 12. It is a nice big hotel with 17 floors and within easy walking distance to everything.

Sorry to hear that...if it is true.  I stayed there several times and enjoyed it mainly because of the great location.  That was a few years ago, and I did hear that there are new owners now.  Then, as well as now, they cater to Chinese tour groups which is a bit of a bummer.  Sorry also to hear that the price has gone up quite a bit, but maybe they have done some modernization which was needeed.  I will NEVER pay a joiner fee.    Roy

They've always charged a joiner fee if you booked through a package or travel agent; I've stayed three times and never been charged a joiner fee, having booked for two people ("Mr Handy and guest") through their own web page.

If someone has booked _through their web page_ and still been charged a joiner fee, they should object to the manager.

I'm probably at RG on my next trip... but have always been happy with Pattaya Centre so far.

Yes, the others are correct, you will only be charged a joiner fee if you book with someone other than the hotel directly.  The manager told me this and I believe it's mentioned on their web site.
