  1. The Central Festival Mall web site list True Fitness & Spa as one of the businesses located there. I don't recall seeing it in my previous trips. Is this a new addition or is it part of the new hotel?
  2. Will be staying in Jomtein for a month. Do they offer daily/weekly/monthly rates at Tony's?
  3. Somewhat shocked that my fellow countrymen would use Long Johns Silver as a measure of the best fish and chips available in the US. Long Johns Silver is the McDonald's of fast food fish. Grew up in New England and there are plenty of places to get excellent fish and chips (made with real fresh cod).
  4. Where did you find the 7th night free offer? Don't see it on their web site.
  5. I stayed at Siam Bayshore once and it was not guest friendly nor would I put it in the luxury category, rooms were very basic. I believe the joiner fee was 1000Baht and they seem to intentionally make it uncomfortable when checking in a guest.
  6. I just made a reservation at the LK Renaissance for 10 days using their email and received a quick reply and confirmation.
  7. Am I correct in assuming that there is no problem bringing guest back? Any extra charge?
  8. Yes it does. Just make sure to turn on the AC when you enter the gym, they generally keep it turned off.
  9. If our arrivals were a little closer I would take you up on your offer. My flight arrives at 11:15am on 20 May.
  10. Made a reservation for a trip in May using the LK Metropole online reservation form. Gave my credit card information to hold the reservation. Received an email the next day confirming my reservation and stating that my credit card would be charged for one night and the amount would be refunded at checkout. Received another email a week later stating that I needed to fax in a reservation form with my credit card information ASAP or my reservation would be cancelled. Is this their normal procedure?
  11. Mook, how was the noise, someone mentioned new construction going on? Do they offer Internet service in the rooms, room safe? What size room did you have to get the sofa? Thanks!
  12. The rates shown on the web site are much higher than what's been discussed. A superior room in Sept. is 4700Baht/night using their online reservations. What's the secret?
  13. I was looking at the Starwood web site for hotels in Bangkok and they now list the Sheraton Pattaya. It's scheduled to open in June 05. Pictures look very nice and it might be a good high end alternative. The Sheratons in Bangkok are guest friendly, hopefully this will be also. Does anyone know where in Pattaya this hotel is located? The web site didn't have a lot of information, pictures make it look like it's on the beach.
  14. The Markland may meet your needs. It's located on the north end of beach road which means it's quiet but with easy access to the Baht buses heading to the south end. It probably has the best views of Pattaya from it's 27th floor restaurant. Short walk to Big C and the girl bars on 2nd road. Rooms were about 1200Baht the last time I was there and it is guest friendly.
  15. Yes, the others are correct, you will only be charged a joiner fee if you book with someone other than the hotel directly. The manager told me this and I believe it's mentioned on their web site.
  16. I just came back from Thailand and stayed in Chiang Mai at the Lotus for 1200Baht/night including breakfast. I wanted to stay at the Imperial Mai Ping but it was fully booked. The Lotus is right behind the Orchid and is directly connected to the Central shopping mall that has a cinema, bowling alley and ice skating ring. The rooms were very big, decent buffet breakfast, and guest friendly. They are in the process of refurbishing their rooms.
  17. The Marriott is the nicer hotel. Both are guest friendly. I think the Landmark is closer to a 4 star hotel.
  18. I stayed there the first week of August and 1200baht included everything (inc. taxes and breakfast).
  19. Don't believe they have their own web site. You can email them at markland@loxinfo.co.th.
  20. Floyd, I stayed at the Omni Towers in Bangkok last November and didn't notice any refurbishment going on but I've always found the rooms and furnishings in good shape and not in need of it.
  21. To start with, my definition of guest friendly is a hotel that does not hassel guest brought back to the room and does not add a joiner fee for any reason. I was considering staying at the Pattaya Centre in the Panaroma Suite based on a recommendation from someone who stayed there. I found a good rate from a travel web site that was cheaper than the hotel directly and included breakfast. I noticed on the Pattaya Centre web site a note saying there are no joiner fees only if you book directly through them. I contacted the hotel and they confirmed I would be charged a joiner fee (didn't say how much) if I booked through a travel agent. Anyone know if they actually enforce the joiner fee?
  22. Thanks for the tip Rex! I just got the JWM for seven nights in August for $400HK.
  23. I only used it at the Royal President. At the time it was ~B170/day. I didn't have any special user account, they brought a DSL modem to my room and hooked it up to my laptop, it took about 15 minutes.
  24. I usually fly EVA Deluxe from Los Angeles to BKK. After collecting enough miles on EVA I upgraded my last flight to Business Class. Stay away from the first row of Business Class seats on the upper deck. They are right up against the bulk head with no room to stretch your legs if your over 5'6". Luckily after talking with one of their lovely stewardesses they were able to find someone who was willing to change seats with me.
