From Bangkok post

Myanmar will send two officers to observe the Cobra Gold military exercise next month, a senior Thai armed forces official said on Thursday.

The drill set for Feb 11-21 in Chiang Mai will be joined by Myanmar for the first time.

Lt Gen Tarnchiyan Srisuwan, director of Joint Operations of the Supreme Command, said Myanmar will be among 101 countries to send representatives to observe the exercise.

This year, 12,700 soldiers from Thailand, the United States, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia will be involved in Cobra Gold, which will include a beach landing exercise in Chon Buri and Rayong provinces.

The Thai-US annual event will focus on peacekeeping and disaster relief practices, he added.
