I am just wondering if anyone has ever stayed at the Ma Maison hotel?  Someone I do not know too well just came back and said it was great, but I was looking for any additional info or comments.  It is located on Soi 13 roughly across from the Pattaya Centre a little further up Soi 13 (This is what he said when I asked the location, although I do not remember seeing it) which is where I stayed the last 3 times in Pattaya, but did not enjoy my last stay there so I am looking to switch to another place in that area.  I looked at the reviews page here and did not see any for this hotel.

Reason I like Soi 13 area - I like being in the middle! Yes to both thoughts!  :P

Thanks!

Thanks Dave,

I had actually found that one as well while searching through some other Pattaya web resources.

It seems ok from what I can tell, but I wish I knew some more first hand info on the place.

I see others have recently stayed at the Haven and liked it, but the reviews are very mixed and I did not like the last few.  I checked out the Residence Garden the last time I was there and I really do not like being that far out from the action.  Living in a land-locked state as I do now (I previously lived in Hawaii for 8 years, California for 3 years and grew up in coastal New England) I like being as close to the ocean/beach as possible whenever I travel.  The Pattaya Centre was great the first 2 times I stayed there, the last time they appeared to be trying to change their policies (I think) and I did not like the way I, or my TGF's were treated.

I also like being more or less in the middle, so Soi 13 is perfect.  I spend a bit more time in S. Pattaya than N. Pattaya, so this way I can walk to Walking St and  take the baht bus to N.P. when I get the urge for a soapy.

Anyway, thanks for the thought.

Looked at one room at Ma Maison 2 years ago - tired looking with mildew in the air.  It was the high season and the only room available so maybe it wasn't typical of the rest of the rooms.  Small pool and restaurant featuring French specialties.  I've eaten there and the food is good.

As has been discussed here a number of times Soi 13 has been the scene of 2 major construction projects.  One just to the E. of The Haven & the other just to the W. of the new AA Residence (which is at the 2nd Road end of Soi 13.)  Last I heard these projects were winding down.  If that's the case your best bet might be the new AA.  I stayed there one night a year ago and it was good until the construction noise sent me out searching for a different hotel the next morning.  And others have said the back rooms on the E. side of the AA were quiet even during the construction.

On the Pattaya Bar Girl site a laddie posted a glowing report on White House Hotel Soi13 .Said the people that ran it were the nicest he had ever dealt with.

Can`t remember when he posted that.

I've eaten there many times.  It has a great outdoor restaurant.  There seem to be some regulars....French speaking visitors, some with TGs.  Last time I had lunch there were two European girls sunning themselves by the pool and dipping in the pool from from time to time.  Great eye candy.  The place looks clean and looks like its well maintained although its not new and not a four start facility.  I keep going back for a quiet outdoor, shaded lunch where I can read the paper and take in the atmosphere.  I've though of staying there myself.  Let me know how the accomodation is.

I stayed in the Haven hotel in Jan 03 & I loved it . I put up a review on this site but it disappeared . All the construction work in that area seems to be completed . A new hotel next to the Haven was just getting its finishing touches but was open for business & looked nice from the outside . You could always book the haven & if you don't like it you can move as there are many hotels nearby .

I stayed for 5 nights at the Haven , went on a visit to Udon Thani and on my return I decided to try the Areca Lodge on soi Diana . I wish I'd went back to the Haven . It was cheaper , better located and better value for money than the Areca .

Thanks Everyone for the messages and comments!

I still have not decided where I will stay yet, but since it will be April, (and as Turbo pointed out) I can always change hotels if I do not like it!  :)

It typically starts to quiet down a lot in April, so hotels are much empier than they are right now.

It appears also, as mentioned here, there are several new hotels up now that were only just being started that last time I was there.  I guess I do a walking tour of the hotels and check them out.

Maybe I will take your suggestion (Turbo) and book the Haven and see what happens.

I will be there from at least April 15-26th, so if anyone is about at that time, let me know and maybe we have a drink or prowl together.  I'll buy the first round. (of drinks... he..he..)

Thanks again,

DenverWill

  • 4 weeks later...

The Ma Maison has some newly built rooms.(Not shown on internet site) Smaller than the rooms on the site, though new and clean with an in room safe, TV and fridge.

Food is good and the daily 3 course specials offer good value.

If you're young(ish) the girls working there may take an interest in you... in my case, showing obvious signs of jealousy when i brought a 'friend' back.

Good location, very close to the beach. Not bad. Negotiate.
