Hi Golfer.

The reason they are so high is because despite the fact you're heading out in Low season in Thailand, it's peak season for the Airlines, that being the UK school holidays.

It also depends upon the releases of seats. The airlines tend to release a number of seats per flight in a set period between 2 dates, say for example 1st July to 1st Aug. Initially the price for these seats will be discounted to get them sold, so you might pick up a seat during the promotion (for example, EVA Air recently promoted their seats between January to June 2015) fairly cheap. As the seats run out and are purchased (usually the weekend ones are the first to go), the prices increase. After a while, when most have sold, or after a set period of time, the airline will release another number of seats between the same dates at the promotional price again.

It is a matter of timing and I tend to subscribe to the newsletters of most of the airlines we've used for their regular promotional updates.

Travelling mid week often reduces the price, plus depending upon the airline you prefer, non direct flights can come in cheaper. (saying that, Emirates via Dubai are only £30 cheaper than EVA direct from LHR).

Another option might be for you to bite the bullet and travel down from Manc to Birmingham which is often a cheap place to fly from, or even do an early start and travel down to London at an ungodly hour to catch a direct flight in the evening (like the EVA , Thai or BA flights).

If you PM me your dates etc, I can put you in touch with my local Travel Agent in the UK who really go the extra mile to get the best fare for you. I also think that if you're checking now, it might be too early, because the Airlines haven't got a fare structure in place for that far ahead. Thai for example still cannot be booked online any further than next April / May, so instead if you enquire, they just put their default "max price" on the economy ticket.

Bear in mind also that ticket conditions can make a difference to price. One with no alterations allowed, no mileage accrual and non flexible dates is often 70% cheaper than one allowing full flexibility, 100% mileage and date change with just Admin charge.

If you want an example on how this works, just go to the Thai airways booking page and stick in some dates for January 2015, and then see the different prices offered.

Hope that helps.
