Hi,I haven't actually stayed at The Rising Sun,but i know a few people who have, who say its o.k. It has mini bar facilities,Air con, safety deposit box. I personally like to stay in a Hotel with swimmimg pool, which you can get for around the same price. The Rising Sun is situated down Soi Yamato and is run by an English guy and his Thai wife. The food their is excellent ,especially the English breakfast for B95 with cuppa tea.The Dogs Bollocks(infamous Chelsea bar) is directly across the street, the Clinic sports bar is further down the road and is run by Ulsterman Derek and Brighton fan Ernie. The clinic is a mainly expat and 'Regulars' hangout(but all are welcome) that shows all the top sports events on Big screen,There's a few go go bars down the street. All in all a lively location to stay. :)

Derek from the Clinic is an old poof who is regularly seen outside Starbucks at 1am negotiating with the ladyboys who hang around there for an ST for 200bt.

Hi Paul,

I very nearly stayed there in Jan 02 I had booked for three weeks but after I saw the room I paid for the first night and checked out 30 minutes later when I had found a new hotel (Pig & Whistle)

It's down to what standard you are looking for. For the price it's OK but for the extra cost of 3 beers I would like a better room in a better area, with better food.....

Good luck

Paul,

Spoke to a friend of mine last night. He stayed in the Rising Sun last December. He confirmed the facilities mentioned in the post above by Druid BUT also said the rooms stank of damp which in turn made all clothes in the room stink of damp :o

He went back in June for the World Cup and says he found another place about 5 doors down from the Rising Sun called the S.A. Hotel or SA Hotel which was far superior and cost only 500 baht per night. :)

He still used the Rising Sun as his local watering hole as he says it's a good bar and does great English breakfasts.

       Dode
