Asia Pattaya Hotel ....

Recommended Posts

I am looking for some help from fellow FLB members about the Asia Pattaya Hotel. I have read the reviews about it (crap) in the hotel review section, but seeing that the last one was 12 months ago I was wondering if anyone had stayed there in recent months and has it improved?

The reason for this request is that myself and 7 other guys are planning to come to Pattaya in February (2003) for 12 days of golf and fun and this is the hotel we have been allocated.

Any posts would be greatly appreciated.

Both the Asia Bangkok and Asia Pattaya place themselves to cater for family groups on package tours, predominantly from Europe, and shorter packages for Asian groups.  To say they are guest unfriendly is an understatement ... not only will you be required to pay a joiner fee but the staff will ensure you realise that they do not approve of your guests.  Even if you have paid a single supplement for your room it will cut no ice with them; you will be required to pay a joiner fee.  In addition although it is really no more than a budget class hotel it levies the dreaded ++ (VAT and Service Charge) on absolutely everything which adds about 20% to all listed prices.  The Pattaya hotel is located about 1.5 km outside of the main town past Big Buddha Hill and a baht bus will typically cost 60-80 baht each-way.

On the plus side they do have an interesting par three 9 hole golf course within the hotel grounds which provides a good practice area for your short game.  They also have access to a semi-private beach which is reasonably well-maintained.   Most of the rooms have undergone recent refurbishment (within the last two years) but they were in need of it.  The food in the restaurants is good, in particular the breakfast.

If I was in your position I would be looking to the UK agent to change the hotel or else take the cost of the hotel out from your package and make your own hotel arrangements.  Failing that, I would look towards arranging another hotel room in town with your friends and use that for your sanook.

All in all, it does not provide a comfortable atmosphere for the single male guest.  :-/

Regards,

Tom

p.s.  My mother swears by the place and stays there twice a year....but she is 68!  :D

Tom - thanks for the detailed info. Will pass onto the gang and let them make there own mind up.

As for me, well I have been half a dozen times before and never stayed out of the action.

The trip in February - I will be out for SIX weeks - will just join the rest of the guys for the 12 days.

Thanks again
