Question About the Penthouse

Recommended Posts

Hi Fellas

I'll keep it simple, what are the basic differences in the rooms Siam, manila and Phom penh?,I can see the pictures on the site but they are hardly any help.I'd like to know specifically about the Penh because there seem to be two descriptions of it on the same page.

Also are the VCD's free or do you need to hire them? [players and discs].

Lastly are the safety boxes downstairs any good?,I have no problem bringing a padlock but that fact I need to bring one doesn't inspire me with the greatest of confidence.

Thanks in advance fellas

Regards

Butch

The differences in room are size (a little bigger) and maybe a feature or two (small gogo stage and pole vs. balcony vs. tub).

The VCDs are free - it's already connected to the TV.

The safety boxes are good.  If you don't want to bring a lock, they'll provide one.  I'm not sure if you have to pay for it or not.  I don't recall paying for it and they took it back when I checked out.  You keep all keys but the hotel's key to the outer door.  The bad thing about it, though, is they lock it up from 2200 to 0800.  If you need mor emoney at night, better have an ATM or credit card.

8) :) To Butch; I was at the Penthouse hotel during my last stay in  Pattaya. I picked the Saigon suite and was fabulous, room came with everything, tv w/cable, fridge w/munchies & drinks, boombox, a/c , full bath and had a view to the clubs outside. safety boxes are free of charge and they provide the lock. didn't order the vcd player 'cause the movie selection wasn't great plus tv channels are good. this room was of good size and even though, you can get a more expensive one, this room was very roomy. I was charged around B 750=, per day(I think???). this hotel has the works including a go go club in place (CATS A GO GO). is one of my favorites if not the best one. highly recommended!!!

A big minus about staying at the Penthouse is that there are no fire escapes, the wiring is by Thia, and the hallways are like rabbit warrens. The plus is that in case of a fire the jump will not be more than five stories.  Up to you.

Pro:  Location,location , location

Con:  There's nowhere to hangout during the day

Summary:

The Sabai Lodge on Soi 2 is a good (but different) alternative.  It has a very nice pool where you can lounge about.  Downside is that you have to use baht buses frequently, but that's really no big deal.  Upside is that the Soi 2 bars (and the massage places: Sabai Dee, Sabai Land, and the other place across the street are nearby).

Hi Cruk

I stayed in May but left after 4 days because I was so dissapointed with it.The rooms were noisy, cluttered and leaked near the window during rain,I found cockroaches in the room and the lighting was bad.The phone in the lobby outside would ring every day at 8 am for ages,I could hear water running thru pipes all night long, and just was not impressed at all for 1000THB per night.I moved to the Residence and found the extra 300 THB per night was well spent, and it is a world away from the PH.The breakfast provided at the PH was very poor, the food being left out uncovered for the duration of the morning.

I'd save yourself the bother and book into the Flipper Soi 7 or 8 or the RG.

Hope that helps

Regards

Butch

I stayed in the Penthouse last October and in the Residence in June this year and IMHO there is no comparison . For the small difference in price the RG is 10 times better . The sitting room / kitchen is excellent for lounging around & watching TV , especially if you have a steady TG . You can leave her watching TV in the afternoon & sneak off for a ST . She'll be that engrossed in some Thai soap she won't notice you've been away . The restaurant is good and the service excellent . I ordered breakfast one afternoon and wandered over to the TV to watch the world cup while waiting . Next thing the waitress arrives over with a table and sets it up in front of the TV so that I wouldn't have to move and miss the football . The only drawback is the location . You can catch a passing baht bus going into town for 10 baht but to get back out you have to hire one costing 50-60 baht .

Most of the lower priced rooms at the Penthouse are at the back.  The next price up are on the side.  The higher single rooms are at the front and have views of the soi.
