Hello All,

I was reading the reviews on this site in search of a good, budget hotel. I was wondering if there is a major difference between the Flipper Lodge soi 7 and Flipper Lodge soi 8?

Also, what do you guys think about the Apex hotel?

Thanks,

Defwez, the Flipper Lodge is the newer of the 2, but the Flipper House had all it's rooms renovated about a year ago. The Flipper Lodge is the more popular of the two as far as occupancy goes if that tells you anything. The two Flippers are not really considered "budget" hotels, and would be about a 3.5 star by Western standards. The Lodge has a great pool area and bar on about the 7th floor with a view over Pattaya bay.

Have never looked at the rooms in the Apex, but believe they are ok, and the buffet breakfast is apparently pretty good also. The Lek hotel is 100 meters away and of the same standard/price range. Also check out the Dianna inn, and the new wing of the Sunshine hotel on soi 8 for decent rooms in the 700 to 900 baht range.

Oscar.

For a start, my mistake sorry.. Flipper House is the newer one on soi 7 and Flipper Lodge is the original one on soi 8. Flipper House would be my pick and is the more popular of the two.

Location wise, they are about 200m away from each other. Soi 7 and Soi 8 are only about 80m apart with a soi joining them together. Close to the "action" would be an understatement, I would guess there are about 150 or so beer bars right at your doorstep in these 2 soi's with probably 10 to 15 staff as an average in each. You do the math!. Some great eateries in the same immediate area also. I can't go into the main reason most guys prefer soi 7 Flipper over soi 8 Flipper on an open site like this, but someone in the members section will or PM me.

I am staying at the Apex right now and think it is pretty good for the 500 baht rate. Simple rooms, but with good 21" color TV, lots of channels (incl. StarSport, Starmovies and StarWorld, CNN, BBC World). Also large fridge. Minibar-prices are cheap. Breakfastbuffet is cheap at 85 baht, but Kiss restaurant is just a few metres away and they are an absolute bargain! Breakfast (2 fried eggs, bacon, toast) 32 baht.

Walked past Eastiny Inn, Flipper logde etc. They are RIGHT in the middle of the action. If you like that, stay in Flipper or Eastiny. If you like to be very close to the action, but not IN the action then you better stay at Apex or Diana or Lek Hotel. Must say Eastiny and Flipper (don't know whether it was Lodge or House, was on soi 7) looked very good from the outside.

I noticed there are rooms availible in every pricerange. Even saw rooms for only 200 baht. So whatever your budget is, Pattaya has a room for you.

Dennis,

Thanks for the info. on the Apex!

I've read the reviews and people seem to like this hotel.

Did they give you a discount for staying a certain amount of days?

Thanks again,

Hi Defwez.

Just thought I would add to what Dennis has posted.

I stayed Apex March and agree rooms are fine.

2 things I didn't like:

The strict female guest Id policy.

No separation in toilet/shower room.

I've just moved in to the Bay Breeze Hotel, round the corner from Apex, and prefer it. A nice bathroom with bath/shower, not unlike those at the soi 7 Flipper Hotel.

The special rate now is 499 baht including American  breakfast.

chico, super horny hound, wooooooff 8) :P

Def,

Flipper House on soi 7 has a nicer rooftop pool than the Flipper Lodge.  However, I prefer the rooms at the Lodge as they are more spacious and I prefer the walk in shower as opposed to a narrow tub you have to climb over.  You can get a tub at the Lodge though if that is your preferance.  Both places are nice for the money and your right in the thick of things as far as the action goes.

Hi Defwez,

Did I get a discount? No! I was truly surprised, since I'm staying there for 10 days and yes, I did ask. They just said no. Then I thougt: " well, I'm checking out late, so maybe they'll let me keep my room until 6 pm for free". Big no again. Have to pay full rate for checking out late. That surprised me, because In Thailand it seems like there is room for bargaining everywhere. But not in the Apex Hotel. But still I like it. 500 baht for a nice, simple A/C room is okay for me. So I don't give it a second thought.

The ID-policy Chico is referring to is strict. But I like that. Some might like it, others don't. Up to you!

You might get a nicer hotel in Ptty, but it will costs you more. Although I'm on a budget somehow, 300 baht/ a night won't kill me. So I can afford a "better" room, but since I only sleep there (and some other things, no need to explain  :P) I thought and still think I can save myself a few baht and stay at the Apex. Not the perfect hotel, but clean, nice staff, close to the action. So good enough for me.

By the way: I stayed at JW Marriott in BKK. Now that's a hotel! Wow!

I have just returned from Pattaya and stayed at the Apex Hotel for 4 nights. Agree with the other members' comments and believe that 500 Baht per night is good value for money, relatively nice rooms, well stocked minibar and good selection of channels on television, also good value buffet breakfast.

It is also close to many beer bars without being too close.

My only problems were the 1500 Baht for deposit of safe key, and I found the air-con was old and quite noisey. I had trouble sleeping with the air-con off as it was too hot, and same trouble sleeping with the air-con on due to noise.

I am interested in a hotel like Eastiny Inn  right in the middle of the action, could somebody give me some information about the Eastiny Inn or do you have some other advices staying right in the middle in the action so I want to stay at Walking Street. 8)

Can somebody give me the link on the internet from the Eastiny Inn?

Greetings from Holland.

Regards,

Piet

Piet,

I don't have the Eastiny Inn's address, but I have the Eastiny Place's address.  It's also located on Soi 8 but towards 2nd Rd.  If your staying for a longer period of time you should be able to get a rate of 700 Baht a night or even less if your staying for around a month.  They have the same owner so if you don't get the Inn's address you might ask them for it.  If your a smoker you would want to avoid Eastiny Place because they have restrictions on where you smoke.

Eastiny Place address:   eastiny@loxinfo.co.th

Just an addition to my earlier reponse: It has been reported by other members, that the Apex tends to mess up your minibat bill.

And yes they do! But don't get alarmed. Since items from the minibar are so cheap, even with adding 200 baht to your bill, it's still cheap. But it's just not a nice thing that's done by the Apex.

Once again: They do tend to mess up your bill, they did it to me, but it won't stop me from staying there again. But I rather see them stoping this kind of thing en raise there mini-bar prices by 10 baht. Then it would still be cheap and some guest wouldn't get mad.
