Reconfirming flights

Qatar airways say I have to reconfirm my flight home from Bkk 72 hours before departure.What happens if I do not do this? do they cancel my seat? Did not have to do it with Emirates last time.

 What if I reconfirm and then decide I want to stay in los another week? :-/

I usually fly  NWA and had the same experience of reconfirming. What I did on my last trip was when I was departing from SFO, I asked the agent if they would reconfirm my return trip and seat assignment.

 

I just explained that their was always a language problem when  I tried to reconfirm my previous trips (72hr rule)

i work for an airline,you have to reconfirm on some airline companies to guarantee your seat,otherwise it can go to some1 else.

all you have to do is fone up and say yes i am going or no i am not and tell them day you want to go.airlines overbook all flights because people do not always show,this is how they deal with it.

In Thailand especially you should ALWAYS reconfirm no matter what airline you are flying.

You will generally find it easier to get a travel desk to do it for you who will charge around 50-100Baht and then give you a copy of the reconfirmation.

I have known people in January this year lose their seat

for not reconfirming.

 

If you are there for a two week stay or less just do it as soon as you arrive at your Hotel then forget it, (not forgetting to stick 500Baht in your passport for the return Airport Tax)

YES, you should reconfirm. If you want to stay for another week you would have to call the airline anyway to see if they have availability.

Its down to the airline. With Thai, BA, Cathay, JAL etc. you don't have to.

 

Perhaps with some other carriers you still have to but it seems to have died off with the big companies.

With Thai you DO have to.

If not, why would TG themselves have issued a reconfirmation receipt ?.

In the small print of practically every ticket or associated regulations you will find a rider stating that all flights MUST be reconfirmed and you may lose your flight if you do not do so.

"THAI no longer requires that you reconfirm your flight but please contact THAI to cancel your reservation if your travel plans change. Many airlines still require reconfirmation. If your journey includes a portion on another airline you may have to reconfirm onward journeys at least 72 hours before departure."

At first I thought it was a bit of a wind-up or some sort of advertising nonsense but they have applied for slots at MAN and for passenger rights on each of the legs.  It seems they intend to do 4 flights a week to/from Melbourne - two via Delhi and Bangkok and one via Bankgkok only with tickets being sold through STA.

 

Twelve hours in a flying beer can to Bangkok with 400 smelly backpackers (northern backpackers at that) - I can't imagine who you would recommend that flight to; or can I?

Strange then that they still issue reconfirmation invoices in Bangkok and were doing so as late as last week ?

 

I still wouldnt risk not reconfirming.

I've never heard of any such thing as a "reconfirmation invoice" so I wouldn't have a clue what Thai are up to in Bangkok. :-/

 

That said, I always reconfirm regardless - at least if things do go wrong I've got the name of someone to point a finger at.

I always fly Northwest(yeah, I am a glutton for punishment) and as I stay at the Nana, the travel desk in the lobby to the left of the main checkin will re-confirm your flights for I think 40 baht.  This is a good investment considering the possible language problem if I do this myself.  James

My experiences.

BA and QANTAS, no need to reconfirm.

KLM, only needed from Paramaribo, wherever that is.

China Airlines, required, I phoned the number in the BKK Yellow Pages, reconfirmed by a nice English speaking lady.

So again I ask why did the  TG office in BKK issue a reconfirmation receipt when a friend of mine was there several weeks ago, if it wasnt required ? Why wasnt he told "theres no need to reconfirm now"?.

 

And would you chance flying half way round the world and risking getting booted off a flight because you didnt reconfirm, simply for a 40-100 baht phone call or 3 minute vist to an agent ?. Then again your Scottish arent you ?

 

You feel free to ignore reconfimring and I'll continue to do so and reccomend that others do the same thanks.

In my experience,Qatar tell you to reconfirm,but don't tell you how to.

Bugger me.I was in Samui and spent ages trying to find out their contact number.Anyway:

FYI the phone numbers for reconfirming your flight(s) with Qatar Airways are :

Airport office: 0-2535-5640

BKK office:      0-2259-2701

                      0-2259-2705

It's a good idea to reconfirm,just to be on the safe side.

Its a printed receipt. If issued by TG, its on their headed paper.

If issued by an Agent then its simply a print out of the reconfirmation, stating PNR No's and any changes in flight times etc.

If reconfirming isnt necessary why do they issue them instead of saying " it isnt necessary"?

 

Another reason for reconfirming is change of scheds.

I normally fly by Turkish Airlines and they like you to reconfirm, mainly because if you are not going to fly they would like to sell your seats to someone else.  I reconfirm by popping into my local Internet Cafe (I am usually in there every few days anyway) and emailing the Bangkok office of the airline, with the ticket number and flight details.  They email me back confirming receipt and also inform me of any little changes to flight times, which seem to happen every year.  You can get the email address of airline local offices by searching for their website and checking there.
