Jobs and Work Permit for US Expat once in Pattaya

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My wife recently accepted a teaching position outside of Pattaya and her school is providing our whole family with resident visas to stay in Thailand. However, they are not employing me so as of now I am just a "trailing spouse". How difficult will is be to obtain employment in Pattaya once I arrive? Are there many companies that consider a "farang" and how easily do you obtain a work permit? This is a real concern for me because I'm not sure I can live there two years without working.

Hi Mat,

Welcome to the forum.

Depends entirely upon your skill set I would imagine, but there are some really helpful and experienced guys here on this forum who are in the position of working there and could probably advise you.

I know of only one farang actively employed by a Thai company who has the benefits and salary proportionally equivalent to that which he would get in the UK, he works in Heavy industry in Laem Chabeng and is very specialised, the company do everything for him re Visas and permits. I don't think getting a WP is easy and there is a certain amount of jumping through hoops.

Cheers

Butch

I would say not as easy as you might think and certainly not for the remuneration you might expect.

As Butch says, what type of work?
