Laem Chabang Port and Shipping HELP

Recommended Posts

Hi,

After 7 months traveling with my motorcycle from Turkey I'm ending my trip in Pattaya. I came here because to see around and the Laem C. port. I learned that from this port there are cargo ships going to Turkey.

I have to find a CONTAINER SHIP (bec it costs less than other ships generally) or company who is making shipping/courier business with Turkey. I've CARNET documents for bike, so it is not an export/import issue, it is basically shipping a 1~2 m3 wooden box.

If you know anybody who can help me or who is in relation with port/custom/cargo agencies etc. please let me know. One by one I believe that I can find correct person but where to begin is really difficult.

Right now I'm accommodating near Jomtien beach and this is my Thai number : 0950169686 (u can better send sms in the day, speaker doesn't work properly)

Container ships carry 20ft and 40ft containers, not idividual crates. You need to find an export agency that deals with consolidation of freight into a container. You might want to search using the acronym LCL to Turkey. LCL is Less than Container Load.

I would be interested in learning how you travelled here and of any highlights or adventures encountered.

Wishing you luck with your search.

I found this link with a single Google search so I guess that there are others waiting to be discovered.

You will want to box up your bike and get it into a 20' Container as "Consolidated Cargo" via a Freight forwarder and as Severn correctly said, you pay just for the m3 (cubic space) your item takes up within that container rather than the hire of the whole 20' itself. Some companies will ask for all the fluids to be drained out of it for transit, as there might be some cross contamination of other cargo if there is a leak.

The other "cheat" method is to remove the rear wheel and then ship the rest as "parts" but that's mostly for dodging customs duties either at this or the other end, but it saves all that tedious bollocks of fluid draining etc, but when you go to pick it up, it looks slightly suspicious when you arrive with a wheel , bolt it on and ride off into the sunset.

OR

My advice of 18 years in the Port Industry is to keep it simple, get in touch with a local (thailand) Freight forwarder and let them handle it from start to finish. Because you're in Thailand it'll be cheaper to do it from this end than the other. Give them all the relevant Documents and ask them if they can deal with everything from packing through to either FOB or cleared and landed the other end. They will then contact their office or partner in Turkey who will arrange for a date and time for you to pick the bike up when it arrives at a Port local to you.

There are several Freight forwarders in Thailand, and the Laem Chabeng area. Just look in the local yellow pages, call and ask if they speak English, you could go for a known international one or a local one. This method is probably 30% more expensive than doing the legwork yourself, but 2 million per cent less headache, form filling and general arguing with your Customs officers over payments, which you'll end up paying anyway cos they'll just seize what they want to and hold it to ransom while stuffing their pie holes with pizzas and selling cheap contraband they've stolen found, laughing all the way to the bank.

Allegedly.

Hope that helps.

cheers

Butch

Amazing info for a person like me,,, And as I always believe, info is priceless. I send my best regards mates... Thank you Butch. Im in Bangkok now, got some contacts of local Freight Forwarders. I will check this week.

Severn, I was using Face and I had a page which I was telling and sharing my journey (from my point of views and comments, funs etc...). But I deactivated my profile for a while, so page is also frozen and hidden now. It name is ´´Motoscope´´ in facebook (facebook.com/motoscopetr). It may come back when I re'activate my profile I think. Thanks for your interest.

A brag by the business development manager (a mate of mine).

As a matter of fact, we are able to beat with our rates on DHL Express even small seafreight shipments (as we did the other week. 1.5 cbm). Airfreight worldwide we beat hands down up to 50 kg, for larger jobs let's check case by case.
