Borodudur temple, Indonesia. May 2016

Recommended Posts

Borobudur is a buddhist temple situated in the heart of the Java, which is an Islamic island in the chain of islands better known as Indonesia.
Abandoned in the 14th century, deeply swallowed up by the jungle and covered, it was re-discovered again in 1814.
Borodudur is Indonesia's single most visited tourist attraction. It is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Great photos as usual.

Wow Borobudur has changed a lot since I was last there. The development around the area is a vast improvement from 1985.

I can only imagine how its changed, that's 30 years ago.

There is now one hell of a market you have to navigate your way through now before you can get out of the grounds.

It is Asia, there were markets even then, not much of a market. There were barley even toilets.

Thanks once more firth1974.

I visited this magnificent place in August 1982, when there was considerable restoration activity taking place. We visited late one afternoon and it was just before closing time and the place had an aura of tranquility which I will always remember. What a surprise it must have been for those that discovered it in 1814.
