It seems that all the air tickets for one way trips to BKK are very expensive.  :'(   As I am relocating to Pattaya in the spring I was wondering whether anyone here knows the cheapest way to get such a single ticket.  Can I buy one by phone/internet in Bangkok at a lower cost and have it posted to me  ??? ???

Also anyone have any experience of taking a heavy box as either excess luggage or as separate air freight.  ???  I need to take out some of my needed items (the rest I will ship) like my PC and Hi Fi as I really don't want to buy replacements there (the ones I have are what I want to keep )  What is the best way to get these items over with me as I really dont want to wait 6 weeks by seafreight.  ???  any advice from someone who has done this will be much appreciated.

Ray,

The cost of excess baggage on your flight is calculated at 1% of the full IATA (non-discounted) fare.  You can reckon on £20-£30 per kilogram.

If I was in your shoes I would employ a the services of a reputable freight forwarder with offices in both your home area and Bangkok to sort out any paperwork and provide you with the cost options of air freight v sea freight.  Pickfords is as good a starting point as any:

IM me if you want any other info re alternative agents.

Get a cheap holiday return flight and dump the return, you can often get them with a few days hotel room thrown in.

Thanks guys for the tips and info.

Tom thanks for that I will have a word with Pickfords as that excess fare seems horrendous considering teh weight of my Hi-Fi and PC even without the monitor and printer.  I will indeed IM you for more info after I get the basics, is that your trade then Tom  ???

Valentino I do not have an exact date yet but looks like mid April next year.  The holiday package deal may be a good idea Ukdog, by just dumping the return flight, but I have found some single flights for just under £300
