Steve,

Usually it is imperative that the initial on your passport matches that on the ticket.  This is an attempt to prevent the ticket being transferred to another family member.  The mis-spelling of names is a pretty normal occurence, I would imagine even more so now that e-bookers has moved its entire booking facility to Delhi.  I am sure most of the operators can speak excellent English but that doesn't help much if they are speaking to a Scouser, Geordie or Glaswegian.  (Sorry for any offence guys - none intended).

Personally, I would insist on something in writing from the agent confirming what they have said, if for no other reason than it is unlikely you will be able to contact them at the airport when you encounter any problems en-route.

Regards,

Tom

Tom is correct in saying get something in writing.

I did the same thing awhile back. The travel agent should inform EVA of the spelling error. The best thing to do is fax your travel agent a letter informing them of the error and ask them to correct it with the airline. Keep copies of all correspondence.

Incidently, if you are on a 30 day visa on entry you require a return ticket. If the return ticket is not in your correct name then you could have problems with Thai immigration.

Steveuk - if you've got time insist on having the ticket changed. I once had the same thing happen but didn't notice the mistake and had trouble at Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific luckily issued me a new ticket. I was not allowed past immigration until the ticket was produced.

Hey Steveuk,

The guys are right.  Same thing happened to me last trip...I refuse to accept the tickets as on a previous trip a mate whose ticketed name was incorrectly spelt had to wait about six hours in immigaration before new ticket arrived.  Any corresponence from your T/A is useless.  Demand a new ticket.

Steve,

it happened to me on my May/June trip.  China Airlines said the change would be free of charge BUT it should be done as there could be a problem at Bangkok on my way home.  The agent charged me £50 for the change, despite my argument that I had spelled it correct on my e-mail booking the flight. They refused to release the ticket until I paid up.  I am still fighting them and will not give up until they refund the £50, now+interest. I even have a letter from China Airlines stating that there was NO CHARGE.

So make damned sure that the agent acknowledges in writing that they screw up is their problem, and that they will pick up any costs.

Steve,

It is not unusual to have a wrong spelling on a ticket, it depends which letter it is, if it is the first of your family name that changes it completely, say Riley to Filey it could be a problem, give Eva a call  0208745 7779 at

Heathrow and tell them the problem, they may accept it and put a note in your booking of the problem for your return journey. Good luck
