hua hin. get the bus only a couple of hours. or get a  taxi for about 2500bht    samui. it cost me about 3400bht, with bangkok air on one of those prop planes and they are fucking scary. you could fly to surrathani with thai air for less and get the ferry over. for beaches or bar girls samui beats hua hin hands down.  you used to be able to book internal flights with campus travel, but they have now gone out of buissness. i believe travelbag will sort you out. baz

Steve,

Bangkok Air fly to both Hua Hin and Samui direct from Bangkok.  You can also fly on to Samui from Hua Hin.  Samui is the airline's base and you then have various options from there (back to BKK, on to Pattaya on to Phuket etc).

Have a look at their website (view "Schedule"  to see where (there is a map showing their network) and when they fly, select your flights and then view the prices.  You can then book direct on-line.  I have used this system before.....simply take the e-mail confirmation to the airline desk and pick up your tickets....it works a treat.  I was too busy drooling over the hostesses to notice if the aircraft had wings, no matter propellors!  :D

A word of caution....you should ensure that you are aware of the differing weather patterns between the east and west coasts of the Thai/Malay peninsula.

I checked out the prices. Thai Airways return from Bangkok to Surat Thani 4735 baht, Bangkok Airways return to Koh Samui 7350 baht. A big difference.

Bangkok Airways return from Pattaya U Tapeo to Koh Samui is 4560 baht.

Steve,

You could get really adventurous and get the overnight train down.  First class from Bangkok plus onward travel by bus and ferry from Surathani to Samui costs about 1500 Baht one-way.  The train leaves at 19:15 and can only be described as an "experience"!

See the link below for timings and on-line bookings.......

Hi Tom:

Was there anything special you had to do when booking Bangkok Air tickets to have them e-tickets? I have just booked the flight from BKK to Samui but havent paid yet. There was nothing in the on line booking to ask this. Thanks for the help. Last year we had paper tickets delivered to the hotel but we got in to BKK from Florida at 1AM and our flight out was at 10AM.  I was concerned that if the tickets were not there I would have problems. When we checked in at the hotel they first said that there was no envelope for us. The e-ticket seems a much better idea.

Catbear,

The booking system should take you through the process:

Select route/date/time; Select flights; Add Pax Information; Confirmation; online payment.

You should then receive an e-mail confirming all details.

Make sure you scroll to the bottom of each page in the booking process to select the next step and continue.

Regards,

Tom
