EVA mileage program

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help me to understand the rewards program for EVA?  I have 8 award checks and am an executive class (or gold?) level.  So what does this mean?  Thanks for the help.

dad,

Try here for some details.  They also have a page that describes upgrades.

http://www.evaair.com/html/global/english/...0,1715,,00.html

Basically, if you're coming from the states it is 20 award cheques round trip coach.  40 for first class.

Not that I would change airlines but 20 award checks for an economy r/t is really bad.  That equals 100,000 miles flown.  United and most others give you a r/t with 50,000 to 70,000 miles.  I was at the web site before but couldn't make heads or tails of it.  Too old & dumb.  Can you tell me what other benefits there are if any?

Thanks for the help,

dad

Dad,

The only real benefits are increased baggage allowance of 10 Kg and you can check in at the First Class counter if a Gold member & business class counter if a silver member. Effectively you are jumping the queue, quite handy at BKK especially. The award cheques are a con you have to buy a full price economy ticket plus 3 award cheques each way for a free upgrade to Evergreen. It is cheaper (in The UK at least) to buy a consolidator's Evergeen ticket in the first place.  That is to be guaranteed an upgrade, you can present you award cheques at check in and ask for an upgrade, you will rarely get it 'cos Evergreen is nearly always full.

Steveoh pretty much has it nailed.

The EVA awards program lags compared to some other programs.

The only real benefit to EVA is if you are flying from the US, you don't have to pay the real high price for business.  Their Evergreen Deluxe is acceptable for the long haul and MUCH cheaper than any business.  Figure around $950 RT in their better class compared to $2000 in business from the best competitors price I could find.

The Deluxe isn't quite business class comfort, but close enough for me (at 6' 200 lbs).

The trade-off is your awards cheques aren't worth as much.  Gotta figure out what works best for you.

Once again I don't seem to understand EVA awards.  Went to the web site again to see about upgrading.  They say from Seattle-New York 3 cheques for upgrade from econ. to super bus., 2 cheques for upgrade from econ. to ever. deluxe and 3 cheques for upgrade from ever. deluxe to super bus. class.  The same number of cheques for upgrade from econ. to super bus. as ever. deluxe to super bus.?  HELP!  Also, is super business class much better than evergreen deluxe?  I am 6'4 250lbs. and wouldn't mind super business if it is alot better, but otherwise I always fly evergreen deluxe and it is great as far as I am concerned.  Thanks guys for the help I really appreciate it.

Dad,

To upgrade US to LOS you require:

From Economy to Evergreen Deluxe

Within US (Newark to Seattle) - 2 cheques

West coast (SEA/SFO/LAX) to Taipei - 3 cheques

Taipei to Bangkok - 1 cheque

From Evergreen Deluxe to Super Business

Within US (Newark to Seattle) - 3 cheques

West coast (SEA/SFO/LAX) to Taipei - 6 cheques

Taipei to Bangkok - 1 cheque

**All these are one-way upgrades only and you can only upgrade one class**

Upgrading to Super Business is only worth it on the 747 Combi where Super Business is located upstairs with First Class sharing the same Galley - only an opinion.

Hope this clarifies things for you.

Regards,

Tom
