I wonder if any of all the brilliant minds on this board can help me correct an annoying setting in my PC ?

When I right click on a link and select "open in a new window" the link WILL open - but in a minimized window. This doesn't happen when I start the browser ( the first window) or when I use the "files- new window" option in the browser.

I did consult the microsoft knowledge database - but the only thing I found there said it was intentional and had to be changed in the registry. I would really like instructions a lot more precise than that before attempting to make the corrections.

I'm using WinME (I know - not that popular :)) and IE 6.0

See if this might help:

Q: When I open my Internet Explorer it opens in a minimized version. How can I fix it so it opens up in maximum?

A: This usually happens when you are opening Internet Explorer via a shortcut. Shortcuts facilitate opening a program that you may have stored anywhere on your computer.

An icon of that particular program will appear wherever you put it -- usually on your desktop. This icon really just holds the location of the application. By clicking on the shortcut icon, you can open the application or document from your desktop or wherever you decide to keep the shortcut.

To change how an application opens from a shortcut, follow these steps.

Right-click on the icon.

Choose Properties.

On the Shortcut tab, select Run.

Choose Maximized.

To make a shortcut, open Windows Explorer and locate the application or document you want the shortcut to point to. Highlight the application, then choose Edit, Copy. Then locate the place where you would like the shortcut to reside and choose Edit, Paste Shortcut.

since the problems is not with shortcuts (they open up in a normal window just as the my settings say they should) but with links on HP's - and when I check the properties on those I only have a "general" tab without any possibillities for changing settings.

But thank you very much for taking the time to answering - I know this is something I really ought to be able to figure out myself :D

Hi Odense,

I used to use the same configuration as you, but have now changed to winxp pro. I still have ME installed on another drive so send me an email with your settings and perhaps together we can sort out your problem.
